Did nt know where to post this, Just in case any of you guys need a cheap robust mobile Aldi have a pre book special offer on at the moment , for £40.

Like I said, £40, I tend to go through phones due to work enviroment, best ever I had was a old nokia rugged mobile, brilliant, it was left in a cement mixer and not a drum one a forced action mixer, taken out washed concrete off dried out, still worked, then cooked and melted on a cooker when she who shall remain nameless turned on the wrong ring, we thought dinner wasnt smelling so good for a bit there, still worked ! havent found a modern equivilent since really. so at £40 will give it a go. I only buy cheap 2 g phones now, having melted, dropped in the canal, and ruined with metal dust too many good phones. I just get the cheapest unlocked 2g phones off eBay.

The callers don't say anything more interesting on a £600 phone, than a £20 one.

I have the Motorola E 2nd gen. Does everything I want; internet, voice calls, texting and camera really well and is cheap.

I'd never buy an iphone again now, no point when you can get good phones much cheaper.

I have a Samsung E1200. £10 from Argos. Cracked the screen the first week I had it. Still working. Battery life, simply amazing!

I've got a galaxy s6 and dropped it off my shed roof the first week I had it.. only broke the back casing but I think I should get something like that before I completely wreck this

The day I realised the latest technology and phones costing more than £5 were not for me was when the wife said you will break your phone doing that..... a picture hook had come loose so I used the edge of the phone to hammer it back in.

its not just the fact they are fragile its the battery life for me. I charge mine maybe once a week the wife chargers hers every night.

I'm still using a Sony Ericsson K800 phone which I got in 2007 as I needed a new digital camera to replace my 1.2 mega pixel camera. I use this phone with an inactive sim as its very robust and so far I've not managed to break it and its had serious abuse. for me its better for me than a modern smart phone as its my alarm clock in the morning, a timer for when I'm cooking, a camera for taking pictures, and my radio for when Im working (with a small plug in speaker) and the battery will last 4 days.

....what it can't do is receive phone calls or text messages and I can't go on the internet, so it lets me get on with things rather than being distracted by modern communication methods

ohh and my normal everyday phone is also a K800 but with an active SIM

Yeah totally agree. Mine hasn't got all the apps and stuff that run in the background and sap the power, so it lasts for ages and I use it quite a bit.

I detest mobiles, but even I'm tempted now you've posted that. The wife insists I occasionally carry one with me, but I ain't a fan of that Blackberry jobbie I get palmed off with.

Once saw one of those in a secondhand or similar shop, btw. Only saw it through the window, (the shop was shut), but it didn't appear too bad in the flesh, so to speak. Looked quite cute.

Well nice to know I am not the only one ! my current phone is a £17.99 nokia, brilliant lasts 3 weeks on a charge, no camera no internet strange its just a phone that works every where , ha. my brother has a i phone, now he uses it all the time due to his type of business on internet,emails etc, and for him its the best , but when he comes to visit cant take calls indoors no signal....ye really usefull that !! dont get me wrong a plain phone would lose him business. Will let you know how I get on with el cheapo after I use it for couple weeks. Arther

About 15 years ago I had a nokia 5210 which was practically indestructible it got we,t it got hot and it got dropped and survived it all.

Found my first "portable telephone" recently, all it did was make/receive calls, no sign of a SIM card slot so it must have been internal?

The BT Jet next to my current "hand me down" from Mrs Robo...

That's a similar size to the first mobile I had in 1994, it was an Erikson with an aerial on the side.

No sim slot means it early analogue, big chip inside is the early equivalent, probably able to use it as a clone phone as they are in holders and not soldered (well 20 years ago you could)
