Aldi mobile phones

I went and got one of those Aldi phones today, so I'll be having a play with it later. Last one in the shop; Had to get it out of the cabinet. They come with a sim card for the EE network. Is that network decent, and easy to get top-ups for at local shops?

I'm with virgin, the mobile phone company (nipped that in the bud ) and uses the EE network I find it ok apart from at home

I'll pop that card in and see how it goes then. Are they as easy to get top-ups for as the other providers/networks with the pay as you go jobbies? I assume with this phone being a dual sim affair I could always pop the Vodafone card in there too if the EE reception or such was a bit erratic?

I'm on pay monthly no contract dont use that much but get about 300 mins umlimited text and a gig of data £6 odd

That sounds decent, and even better, it's cheap too. How do you go about getting something like that set up? I'm not very familiar with this whole mobile phone malarkey.

Just give them a ring and ask I was on contract and they just offered it

Gets the thumbs up from me for a cheap rugged useable phone with great quality audio,if thats the right word!

Just been talking to our Gert on this one, and the audio quality definitely does seem good. I usually can't tell half of what anyone is saying when I'm either using or talking to anyone on a mobile, but I could hear her clear as a bell on this. She managed to keep interrupting me mid sentence to perfection too, just like she does when I try talking to her face to face, (that really is one of my pet peeves), so she could obviously hear me perfectly too.

We're on EE until the contract runs out in August, then we're switching. NO signal at times where we live. We looked on one of those mobile phone coverage websites and EE shows poor to no coverage. O2 is best for where we live. Horses for courses.

Dont know what I did there, anyways MattF , glad you are pleased with audio on phone, I would have felt bad if you werent ! see what I mean though good quality sound both ways. re provider I too pay monthly ,tesco, £7.50 which gives me 250 minutes talking to any network what so ever and god knows how many texts, just got to speak to them about data though.
Yes good thing with dual sim , you can stick another network card in so if no signal on one you might on other.

Thanks , that makes life easier, had the account couple years and as you all know if it works you just keep using it ! I liked it because the phone any network without charges, nobody else would do that at the time.Plus good signal/coverage where ever I go it seems. Arther

Aye, definitely chuffed with it going from first impressions. Your summary of it was pretty spot on. Also like the fact it's got a bit of weight and chunkiness to it. The slimline, lightweight phones just aren't my thing. I like something you can grab hold of and know you're holding it. Stuff like browsing the web on it is obviously awkward with a screen that size, and due to having to use the arrow keys, but web browsing ain't what I want a phone for. In fact, most who know me probably won't even believe me when I tell them that I've actually finally got a mobile. I've avoided these things like the plague for years, whenever possible, but one has to give in eventually.

Thanks for keeping us updated on your opinion of this phone Arther. Have to say, I would likely not have got one if it hadn't been for you getting yours and letting us know the outcome and your opinion, and now I'm definitely glad I got one.

In fact, most who know me probably won't even believe me when I tell them that I've actually finally got a mobile. I've avoided these things like the plague for years, whenever possible, but one has to give in eventually.

I've had a mobile since they were small enough to fit in a (large) pocket and mainly use it for phone calls & the odd text message. What really annoys my friends & family is I only switch it on when I go out of the house and turn it off when I get back in as I have a perfectly good landline while I'm home.

For anyone who makes very little use of their phone Giff Gaff which runs on o2 works well for me.

A fiver a month for about 2 hours of calls, 500 texts and some data, however calls or texts to other GG phones are free and removes no allowance and if someone phones you from a non GG phone it adds minutes to yours.

I have never run short of allowance yet but I don't surf the net on my mobile.

MattF only to glad to help, and chuffed you are pleased, I read on this forum for ages before I joined and since I have realised what a good site it is, 99% on here seem only to willing to help and give advice, so just pleased I could give some back. I used to be with Asda mobile when they were using Vodaphone network. I only had 2 bars signal but it was consistent all around home. I'm currently on O2 and it seems to be all or nothing - I'll either have 4 or 5 bars or no signal at all. Worst of all you lose signal mid call without moving your position! The only reason I stick with them is that I get free calls to my mates who are all on O2 as well.

Tesco mobile, who use O2 network have a deal whereby if you top up £10 they give you an extra £10 of credit which you must use within a month but your original £10 carries over. My mum has that deal and it suits her as she only uses her mobile when on holiday.
