Golf isn't actually mapped yet as its something we've just finished. Its a stock AGU engine so we'll be going for around 320hp to start with, the turbo is capable of near 500hp when the internals have been changed.
Yes, I hate polished stuff so we always try for a satin finish. Even on this car I think its a nice contrast.

Sorry haha, I copied and pasted from a Honda forum I post on. Nobody (I know of) turbo's Vitaras.. What they do is use Vitara pistons, and put them in a honda civic, it lowers the compression ratio and allows you to run more power.

I love your type of work rick, it must be vary satisfying, i find my job building engines everyday good and then i go home and do abit of welding for my hobby and thats great but doing both at the same time must be even better, do you need any more staff :-P.....

We port the heads in house, CNC combustion chambers are done at a local place, i've not finished my flow bench so thats not done in house either.
Thanks, the work is satisfying, (very stressful at times). To be honest I don't do that much on the engine building side any more, neither do I do a lot of actual fabricating I do most of the welding on the manifolds, but thats about it. Generally speaking I do the "boring" and the not so boring bits. I do a lot the mapping.
I've just purchased a 3 axis cnc mill and a rolling road. I'll certainly have a lot of head scratching to do in the next few months!
What mill have you bought Rick and what control does it have?
I would be happy to give you some pointers if its one I'm familiar with.

Is this your first s2000 manifold? I read they are a nightmare for cracking because of the engine rev note or somthing?
I can't see why that would be an issue, I have higher concerns first from the design. The engines are better balanced than most which would play a bigger part.
Indeed, we did and still do a fair bit of starlet stuff.

There is no bracing, the whole idea was to save weight.
The intercooler is massively strong due to its construction and the end tanks are made from 5mm allumium. I did a rough model in CAD and it was confortably stronger than the 1.2mm pressed steel it replaced.
As a rough idea the core has over 40 100mm x 1.5mm cross pieces. With the fins between them. The only thing that worries me is fatigue where the bars are welded to the end tanks, however been a race car that will do very limited runs without a strip down its something I can keep an eye on.
All in all it saved me around 15kg's. And is still strong enough to jack the car up with.
