I wouldn't like to say to be honest as it cost us time and money and the company now offer them "off the shelf" but gave us a huge buy in and we paid for the casting etc.

We still use off the shelf elbows when we can to keep the cost down.

It's not like i'm asking for a phone # but fair enough. I expect the people who have put the time, effort and money into developing rotary draw bending kit feel the same way

304 is perfectly aceptable and often used. I don't think it would help you anyway because even in small quantities you'd be looking at buying more than 100 of each bend at a time at a heavy price.

I think if I called JD2 and asked them for plans to make a bender they would say no also. They would probably tell me I could buy a bender, and when people ask me, I usually say you can buy the bends I don't pay to trade on here and don't look for business so I didn't.
I don't mind at all paying for the plans, infact if you read my thread you'll see I will actualy give the person that sends me some a free set of parts to make a bender from, this will probably cost me much more than buying some plans What I actually wanted was CAD or DXF files, if somebody sold those I would buy them, I thought i'd ask here as most people get the benders from plans cut by a laser cutters so they'd need a DXF.

I also thought it was schedule pipe. Makes it easier to understand how you get the uniform radius on tight-fitting turns now, I often wondered how you kept it so compact without cheat-cuts. Hats off to you Rick for putting in the investment (pun intended).

I was just curious* as to what made them 'custom', they're too heavy on wall thickness to be of interest to me. Couldn't resist the good natured jab given the bender plans thread and your secrecy about them but as Pete good on ya if you've got sufficient demand to make it worthwhile

*just as i'd be curious how the costs compare to say lighter wall mandrel bends in 321 stainless but didn't ask as i thought that'd be asking too much and it's not really a straightforward comparison anyway

Ours would fall very close to a 321 bend in terms to composition. Cost is probably similar, it depends what you pay for a 321 bend. But this stuff is too heavy for n/a manifolds really.

Rick, if you need stuff draw bending, I'm only up the road. Unfortunately I only have formers up to 1 3/4" at the moment though, even though the machine will do 2.5"
