I do like that. Do you have a pic of the inside?

He (not me) is just using random pallet wood on the inside. Screwed on. It'd drive me nuts the screws not being in line! Bits need finishing off everywhere. Shelves too made from scrap. I had no input on the roof btw!

Got some shots of it empty to come.

Picked up some OSB3 T&G 8' x 2' at a place today very slight seconds at the right price and some galv back boxes so now i have a working socket and it feels more like a room.

May I ask is your breathable membrane fixed onto stud work then you fix battens then clad ?

What's the clad you have used outside ?

I can tell that you would be ready for the funny farm after seeing the randomness of the inside of my sheds.

Everything vaguely fits where it touches, sort of, and if any screws line up, it’s by pure luck than intent.

The breathable membrane was stapled straight onto the outside of the pallets. It's more of a wind/insect proof thing. The whole shed was wrapped:

Then vertical battens, roofing tile battens in fact.

The cladding is waste from a sawmill, literally the outside of logs being cut to make useful timber that would otherwise have been burnt on the fire. His father in law has an east European copy of a mill like this:

The older I get the more I'm into upcycling. It's why I like a shed built from repurposed stuff. I think it cost him around £200 for the membrane (part rolls off eBay) the roof timbers & corrugated sheets. If his FiL had had the mill earlier we could have made the roof timbers too. He got the base hardcore off of me and scrounged the concrete materials from someone else. He absolutely raped my bucket of plastic shims (Screwfix 80408). Well useful if pallets etc aren't quite the same length.

Rather than buy storage tubs I'll use cut down 5 litre containers or 25 litre oil containers (that stack), even heavy duty shampoo & detergent bottles. Why buy a shelf bracket if you can make like in this shed. A bit of careful thought etc. A cheap tote cut with a multitool:

Are you going to need to ventilate this in anyway seeing as it looks so well sealed? The effort here, it looks like it'll be airtight!

its the same throughout the trades including roofing either fixed to wood battens or rafters or fixed to boarding

the one thing with roofs is you put another batten after the breathable felt has gone on then another batten following down the inner batten

no you can get many different brands of breathable felt every one claims different things with it and then its the cost

2 types though standered width or double width 1mt vs 2mt x 50mt just so you know thats just coverage

all down to you though on that one

You're talking about counter battening I think?

Hopefully the nephews shed has enough "sag" on the membrane that any water that does get under the (reclaimed) clay tiles on the rear pitch will run off the membrane rather that sit and get trapped against the horizontal (only) battens.

yes but the method can also be used for wood walls as well

it wants no sag on the membrane nice and pulled tight for a low slope of roof its best to fit a 9mm board on first though

When I did a shallow pitch roof with membrane last I used 12mm marine ply then 6mm strips of ply vertically in line with the rafters. Then the membrane then horizontal tile battens

I can understand @Onoff's point though - for a while I used to ensure that the screw slots were all at the same angle along a row, never heed in line..... ,then I realised there were more important things in life.
Now 'in line' is enough

I am fitting a small fan over the bench to vent solvent paint and if i solder in there, I have some that trickle vent all the time and can then run fast on demand like if you trigger them.

What are you going to seal it with ? Linseed oil, Danish oil ? Paint ?

I've got an excuse with mine.
All built using reclaimed roof materials.
Been bone dry for 3 years though.

Outside I think was Creocote / oil mix. Inside.....don't think he's bothered yet?

We did debate whether to fill the pallet walls with some sort of insulation like polystyrene packing beads or even gun foam but it never happened.

Without a doubt the way @Olderisbetter has gone with Celotex is the way to go for most builds. I'll be hopefully doing similar when I do a passive esque 30m2 garden room. Saying that a lot of passive self builders I know go for blown cellulose because of the better decrement delay. Chap I know near Canterbury only uses about 1.2kW a day for space heating the entire house. Mind his walls are 400mm thick filled with Icynene. Expanding foam that comes on a truck with two bfo tanks.

I used 50mm rockwool. In 6 years I've had absolutely no issues with condensation.
