I made a rod for my own back really with the spacing, I'd say it needed easily another mm on what I started with. I assume when you're talking about filling from the inside that relates to being right handed? Although I can weld with both I'm a lot neater with the left.
I'm working on lowering the cap and tidying up the filler passes, for the moment though the instructor was just happy to see the movements are all there ascend he is sure the rest will come. Each piece I do is getting gradually better as I'm not having to think so much about it.
Managed a decent 2G today though before I left, gutted that I forgot to bring my TIG finger as it really would come in handy, I'm having to adopt "the most comfortable uncomfortable position" to find a decent prop
