Iv got 5 teckles and there fed dry food 19% protein

the protein % with dry food is a bit misleading
heart is 19% protein... but it's 77% water too... take out that water and it's about... 76% protein (did the maths in my head, might be off by 1 or 2%)
so to get the same amount of protein from that dry as from meat the dog would need to eat about 4 times as much of it by weight
(not having a go at you about it, just pointing it out, I see those same kinds of numbers all the time and a lot of people don't realise)

Some dry food is rubbish, some great. Barf used to mean bones and raw food. I won't raw feed again on a regular basis. If I am butchering a lot of meat I will give it to dogs while dead fresh but I won't store or defrost it. Had a few infections, besides that the best complete dry foods have a great deal of time and resources spent on developing and maintaining a good ballance. Working dog food is also vat free. I buy good stuff at a good price and don't swap n change brands or type

Don't feed them any diff to thoughout the year apart from extra dry food
biggest thing you can do is not overwork them no point running them in to the ground chances are you never get thanks for it from the guns
Always chuck mine in the car for a rest at lunch and keep on the lead as much as poss between drives etc No point them tearing around looking at flushing stuff when there's no need
Once you get the first few days out the way your be suprised how much fitter they are compared to out of season

Yep agree I've got a 14y old ess and he still loves a good drive or 2 depending on the walk he's got no joint probs what so ever till the next day he's a little achey I believe that's because I've been carful on what he's done during the day given the chance he would be out all day the daft sod

Too much rubbish about, see them at the game fairs dressed up with daft neckerchiefs on etc. Not as good a pointer as a pointer, not as good a hunter as a spaniel and not as good a retriever as a lab. Few good lines in the hands of good trainers acount for a small percentage. Not for me been there done thatgot to admit i was almost there myself until 2 1/2 years old

The same can be said for any working line of dogs , they have all changed drastically. Look at what humans have done to labs. They should be big dogs with big round heads, we don't see many like that now. My mate bought a lab pup, it looks no more like a lab than a JR does.
If your used to labs you have to forget all you know and start again when you get a GWP. They are not for the feint hearted type that's for sure. The take a lot of work and sweat to get trained but very satisfying to train. Mine are trained for deer and this line of work suits them down to the ground. Much more capable than any other breed used for this type of work

I used one zapped the dog twice after trying it on myself first didn't stop her doing it
so gave it back to the bloke and tried another way to stop her running in
I've never been a fan of them but gave it ago and wouldn't ever bother using one again
Think to many folk use them as they don't have a clue how to train a dog and it's an easy way to control them

with you 100% on that, though never used one myself ,folk just want instant everything now

Firstly they are not to control a dog, anyone one who uses one to control a dog is very wrong. I have used one and would do so again if I had to. My first GWP, would fight any dog he came into contact with. It made no odds if it was a dog or bitch. He had been socialised with other dogs but still had this hatred for other dogs. I tried all the things I knew, took advice from a renowned trainer of GWP's. Tried his suggestions. In desperation I bought a collar, I was very unsure of them. I strapped it to my leg and got my wife to give me a full power belt. It F'ing hurt. Not long after a strange lab dog appeared at our house, my dog was ready to fight. I put the collar on and let him go toward the lab, first sign of aggression and I hit the button, only half power. My dog react to the shock and backed away, since that day we had seven more years together. He looked at other dogs but very rarely did he offer to any more than look. It was a good result for him.

Have a look at a St John's water dog. The original labrador. It's not big, meanwhile some show labs are massive. Double coats are beginning to be the exception rather than the rule. But that because so many rate dogs on ft success. My gwp was sired by magnus the dog owned by Chris Grey but the mum turned out to be suspect later all the litter were eventually pts I believe. He excelled at deer and fox but temperament was poor. I don't keep nasty dogs control is everything. Good ones exist sure but it's about percentages I won't go there again personally they ain't for me
