Anyone with a working gun dog?

I have no issue with aversion training in with e collars. After that they must go as it's too tempting to use them for stuff that's better done with reward based training. You must understand aversion needs stealth and planning its not revenge

When I said my ESS was knackered I didnt mean in a bad way. Just trying to get across how much more exercise they need than most people realise. The shoot I go on is very relaxed. Just a bunch of friends on there own land with wives and kids. Dog loves it.

I was asking about food, not because I thought I could work him harder but what people thought was good brand / type.

Unfortunatley when it comes to dogs and feeding, training, whats right and whats wrong, you will rarley get two people agreeing on very much at all.

Yep agree some will say £45 bag off dog food is needed others will say £10 bag is fine all depends on how many days miles etc you do imo

do you use your teckles for tracking johnny ?

I use two for tracking that are trained on deer.
the other 3 I hunt pheasant and woodcock.
Shot a goose last year. Sent one to retrieve it.
It was like myself trying to drag a bag of coal LOL

roe & very occasional sika ,screwd up with arthritis now so quite restricted myself

I'm lucky to have Roe, Sika and few Red, my backs the only thing affecting me at the moment. I only shoot Reds now if I can extract them easily.

I don't mind dragging Sika yet but a day will come when I do. I have several ways to extract large deer, quad, portable winch( pain to set up), 200 m of rope tied to the truck. The quad is the best, clean and quick

The antlers are a lot heavier than ours, don't often get them with all points intact

It's the biggest I have seen personally and I see quite a few . Points a little chipped from fighting but not bad.
