well mate you have proved something which I though true, which i'm sure now you spot as if i'm right you had right way first time ..
mate sorry to edit pic you was running leads right before swapping over if you had ground where I've typed it and stinger, for the holder, to other please remember Jim# is on AC not DC arc welder , mate sorry but just wanted to confirm all this before any more confusion was added to this for you..

No problems mate I feel you are heading the right way just like to try and back stuff up as well, stick at it all mate I've learned a lot to my welding over just a few months lost count the amount of hours I've looking at welding vids ect so keep at it mate ...

It doesn't change nothing it's a transformer
Main current flows through the primary winding ,no current can flow through the secondary windings until you close the circuit
So no phase and neutral
No positive or negative
It will result a 2 phases output
It's more likely to be something caused by connections
Check your connections , clean your ground clamp, clean your FIM 81 Stinger
Clean the contact parts and thigh the nuts that provide connection with the welding leads
And try again

I'm enjoying the challenge ( But I understand your hatred ) But ultimately it will improve my welding across other platforms.

Wait til you try using a good quality DC machine with a 7018, you'll wonder why you were struggling. You just ram it into the joint and it does the work itself.
6013's like a little bit of arc length, so holding a consistent arc length is a skill you'll have to learn, but those buzz boxes make holding said arc length tricky.
Hopefully you crack it, like you say it's good practice anyway.

Oh no I feel another new toy needed .
I have a good mate with an engineering business with a fab shop and a very skilled welder,I will try to tie in abit of tuition with him sometime.

mate you now thinking of a move to DC, trust me there is a difference, I feel you will get the AC mate ...
Started at 1 finished at 7.
The smoother welds are where I changed to the Superons.
So what have I done..... Keep fine tuning the amps by studying the welds and colour of the rod.
Changing angles alot and studying results, I find on a strait bead I can do more perpendicular But on a fillet the seems to drag in slag so I angle abit more on a fillet.
All in all I'm very pleased to have got this far in a few days.
I will keep practicing, Consistency is my aim now, Its no good if I go to do a job and it all goes back to crap welds again.
I will add that this exercise came about because I left my mig gas on and ran out ( For the second time!!) So I decided to punish myself back to stick ( When I get a new refill I will trace where the leak is ).
so I also have a Clarke 151te, I'm not the best at mig either, But this exercise I'm sure will serve me well for that also.
I thank everybody for your help and patience I have learned alot and increased my skill level.
I also have some new vids to look at when I get time that Andy posted (Thakyou ).
