I found turning up on the main night club street in town in an armoured personnel carrier attracted an amazing amount of females.

I did some many years ago on my dads transit camper wheels in the 70's I cut the outer rim off at the bend where it turns vertical, using a half shaft in the lathe then got another set of wheels and cut the inner rims off at the point where it turned down into the well and welded the two together. Did the job made them about 70mm wider for the 225 x60 tyres. and cost nothing.

You guys that have done this banding of steel rims..what's the maximum amount you have added..

it depends on which bit you band if you band the bottom of the well, then there is no problem to width,

But if the top part of the rim is banded as the old stye wide wheels where made, then;-
You have to be careful because when you fit the tyres, they have to drop into the well, for them to fit over the rim,THEY DO NOT STRETCH !!! if that distance is too great you will damage the tyre, some times you can fit them over the wrong side ie the inner rim, coz normally they are fitted over the outer/or front of the wheel because that is the shortest distance, if they will fit over the back, then it is sort of limitless, so the question has no real black and white answer, it is the design of the wheel that denotes what you can fit.

I have just done the exact opposite with my trailer wheels I have fitted 195 /50/ 13 tyres to my car trailer, that normally uses 165/ 13, for one thing it lowers it, that makes for easier loading, but also it means the tyres are wider than the rims. They were a pig to fit.
Then if for any reason the trailer is kerbed or the tyres run against the kerb, that tends to stop damage to the rims and cushions the impact to the hubs IMO.

OK. This is my proposed plan..crazy as it is..below is a picture of the cut line I intend to make.just left of the factory spot weld..then once cut and sperated I will add a 4 inch band.100mm. Pushing the left side of the rim 4 in he's outward/face outward...

That is ok as that is the bottom of the well and the tyre will still go over the front
