Battery Adapter file exchange.

This is brilliant work. I've seen various adapters for sale on eblag before but normally only for the big name brands.

I have an old Bosch 1/2" impact wrench (NiMH batteries), was a real powerhouse when new, but the batteries just didn't last very long. These days I have Makita stuff and would love to be able to use the batteries on the old Bosch. I did look at trying to graft bits together once, you can buy the tool side battery connector as a spare part from Makita.

It would be pretty simple (for me) to keep the top "red" bit and graft a Makita bit on the base. I'm getting reasonably adept now and have a number of ready made models to mix and match.

That's the type, and that's what I'd imagined doing.
The two parts are only screwed together, so easy to take apart.
You need to ensure the two red side clips are available to hold the battery into the tool. They, plus some springs are sandwiched between the red and black mouldings.

I've done similar but with Makita nicad tools with LXT batteries. I unscrewed the top part of the battery, screwed that to an LXT adapter and used hot melt glue to secure in the tool. There might even be a picture of it on here.

This is the once powerful old beastie.

I found there is a model of the Makita side on Grabcad https://grabcad.com/library/makita-lxt-18v-battery-mount-v4-1 which saves some work. Alas not so lucky with the old Bosch version.

I already have the Makita tool-side connector.

To hold the battery into the Bosch tool requires the 2 red clips, and the terminals to sit high up inside the moulding, maybe hot glue would achieve this.

The whole lots needs to be arranged something like this

First thoughts are that the spring clips, because they're so tall, are possibly the "weak link". They potentially add height to the whole assembly.

I've just been thinking about this tonight for powering old DeWalt tools with the similar "tower" style battery.

One option is do away with the original tower / insert and just hardwire the printed adapter to the Bosch tool. That has some merit.

Another is retain the tower section but design new, printed clips to hold it in. Have them shorter and unsprung. The 3D printed section then gets screwed to the tower and keeps the clips in place.

Off down another rabbit hole I go...

Is this something you can print / modify in CAD yourself or are you looking for someone to do it?

My biggest problem doing these adapters is that I start well then lose interest...and start another one...

The magenta line is a scan from where I drew around the black battery base, scanned to a PNG and my lad converted to a DXF.

The yellow curve to the left is what I did by measurement, so pretty damn close. I often look in the cupboard for tins that I can hold against whatever to guage diameters. A Nutella lid matched part of the DeWalt battery amazingly. The green is the part of the template I printed

It's horrible to "trace" over, so many pick points to choose from on the scanned polyline! Thus I've given up for tonight and turned to drink.

Weird, I thought I'd posted this below yesterday, yet it seems not

I now have an Ender 3v2, which I didn't when I was last messing around with battery adapter ideas.
Like so many of us I bounce in and out of projects according to priorities of the moment, and having bumped into this thread it has brought about renewed interest.
I can model and print things, but thought I'd share my findings of the last couple of days In case it helped anyone else.
I'm planning to modify Daniel's model and see how it goes. I've just started printing the top part to see how well it fits. I'll post up the results when it's done. Only 8 hours to go...

I'm going to use the original Bosch contacts. Seems no point in not using them.

What material did you print in?

It's horrible to "trace" over, so many pick points to choose from on the scanned polyline!

Don't convert to dxf. Keep the scan as an image (e.g. jpg.)

Bring it into your CAD and draw two intersecting (construction) lines over an edge of the object (so you have an 'x' centred on top of the image line). Do the same at the other end of the edge. Join the intersections with a line of a different colour or different layer as the permanent line.
