can you tell me an amp proposition depending of position ? for instance for fillet weld I run the 3.2 6013 at 110 15 but for vertical up 104 seem to work (with7018 I use higher amps)
for fillet weld do I need more amps (flat angle) than for flat ? Descending I did only try a little , amps at 125
I noticed that I feel more at ease with a strong arc, not feeling the need to shorten it to the max, generally speaking.
But some pretend it is best to use the minimal amps allowing the stick not to stick, so I dont know which direction to work (may be it depends of the rod, too)

i think you are trying to push the rod into the pool dont do that keep a constant arc length you should not realy need arc force at all on fillets

keep them 6013 on negative polarity ie rod connected to negative , earth clamp positive you will find they work better,here is a picure of a famous french welder who came to scotland a few years ago

I am not trying to put the arc in the puddle (I hate the sound) but did try the "automatic manual" technique sometime (and did not like the result)

I can "feel the base metal" (lightly) without putting the rod in the puddle; I also had a welder showing me fillet welds on a large pipe, and he told me he was feeling the metal at when dragging (and also that at some point, he reverted and pushed the rod, for the back of the weld probably)
I deduce it is Ok to touch lightly the metal if I am not sure of my rod location

DCEN for 6013 indeed, (and they do not sing nicely with EP) But dont you think that "trick" from my contact at FSH Selectarc, that told me I could gain penetration if I use EP with 6013
Any value ?

I will put arc force at zero , not the 10% of today, I liked to have a "normal " arc, and have less reaction when it shorten, less spatter when amperage are a little high, etc

always try and use the highest current( you can handle ) it always makes for cleaner welds

I did the same, it took me some time to get back to the feel as I did not use 6013 for about 10 days (and I am a beginner)

Vertical downhill, 7018 (using most of the ones from the bin) on a lap joint block so not flat.
Zero arc force 1/8 120 to 130A

As it was somewhat frustrating, I added a coat of 4mm 6013 going up. 132 A.. No arc force, slag as a breeze

All I do there is one hand and standing.

I do not complain I make beads and beads, and I try to understand what happen with arc force and without.
