I thought something similar, a bit of inner tube. but securing it was something I'm unsure about. Obviously I want it discreet but functional.

Sikaflex 221? A friend uses it to stick boats together so it's pretty strong... I've used it to put some reinforcing (because there were holes) in the tub of a Land Rover and it's been absolutely fine with all the crap thrown up from the rear wheels and the abuse I've given it.

Brace yourselves, lots of pics incoming!
Over the last couple days I decided to paint the gate. I masked off everything and re painted both posts as well. Very pleased with the outcome.

Fast forward to today. I laid the bits out and fitted them piece by piece. It’s very satisfying!

Firstly the motor mount and the mechanism mount fitted.

Then I fitted the wood To the infill piece and mounted that.

All the mechanism on and adjusted.

Motor on.

The first bit of wood on!

It was at this point I realised, I messed up, every board bar the first had the grain facing in the wrong direction! Luckily I noticed whilst talking to my neighbour, I’d have been very annoyed otherwise.

Sorted it out and carried on.

I’d used all 100screws by this point so I had to go and get some more

All finished here

I am extremely pleased with the outcome. This has been I’d say the biggest fabrication project I’d ever done. I dread to think how much it would cost to have someone else do it. £6000+ I’d assume .
My neighbour and his friends were very blown away with it. Quite satisfying when someone appreciates something that’s been so tough to do.
