My recollection is hazy. It might have been a stork but that wouldn't work as a pun.

Might also have seen one on my travels then been told a story about it but I do remember taking a picture so I should still have it somewhere...

<edit> memoroes are vaguely beginning to return. It was on a trip to Denmark (Kirsten Kjærs museum). I installed a large sculpture for them. On the way there (or back) I saw the crane (or stork) possibly with or without a crossbow bolt. I did take a picture, most likely on film (a light sensitive reel of sellotape for you kiddies)

My neighbor worked onto something like this floating crane which is not big (5000 tons only?)
Anyway he worked on the Micoperi 7000 now known as the SAIPEM 7000
The hook is a single piece casting (60 tons maybe 10 meter tall ) 50 pulleys
The steel ropes are replaced every time they lift something big .

Back on topic he explained me that due to the counterweights ,the tensions and resonance.. they can't release the load quickly , because otherwise would happen something like what we in this thread or even worst ,theorycally the boat should be sinked

When my neighbor was on board they lifted a 13000 tons oil drilling rig (12 hours to release the load on cranes)
The lifting cables has been scrapped after the operation

They even lifted an entire platform with the crew inside

Wow that really shows what happened. The swivel failed. The crane took almost all the recoil by rolling backwards, the rear jib(?) just folded under its own weight
