I suppose even if you were to charge just minimum wage it would be expensive down to the shear amount of effort you put in!
Still who knows - perhaps one day if I can afford it - the quality of your work is incredible.

You would not want to pay even minimum wage for the hours that go into this.

You are spot on. We do a lot of shipments for station road steam - check their website. Some of the stuff sells for silly money but when you break it down by the hour you will find the person who built the item would have only made about £1 per hour!

Today I started the task of scraping all the carriage parts. Starting with the cross slide. A few more passes and a couple of clean up passes should see it good.

The only time that apron will be coming of is when I drill the original oiler holes to take a threaded oilers

Out of interest, does cleaning the ways with a wire brush act as a detrimental action to the lathe if you go on to scrape it anyway? Or should you still use fine wire wool/scotch pads?
