Problem solved. Got a little more finishing but it's almost there
It's almost there now Pete. A little more flat plate sanding will pull it rightIn the scraping class Richard said he used to straighten long gibs by slapping them down on a flat bench.
Don't try it with cast iron gibs...
Silver solder would fettle that.
It's cast steel. I can drill and tap the end and use a new flat with a counter sunk machine screw. That will affect the heat treatment. I'm assuming, from the grain structure that I think I can see, that it's piece of heat treated steel.
Or am I wrong and it's cast iron, Spencer?
Thanks shox. It's one of them very anoying things that happen from time to time.Beautiful rebuild fella. Shame about the breakage. Silver solder would fettle that.
Yes. Makes me feel guilty everytime I look here.I am in envy of your commitment to parts cleaning, it all looks almost sterile.
I often get as far as degreaseing and rust remove, but never to the extent of the full polishing of every component.
The cleaning and general polish isn't to bad. It's the deburr of every one of those gear teeth that's the time consuming partI am in envy of your commitment to parts cleaning, it all looks almost sterile.

Big thanks to both you guys for helping me as I would not be able to complete the lathe build without your help. Very appreciated.
