Colchester steadies are about...but they are hefty price..
Yes some are impossible to find. Still looking for a mellor lathe travelling steady. I will find oneTry finding Holbrook steadies...
I'm making my own fixed steady, 10" OD, inch and an eighth thick pipe flange and a fair bit of turning/milling/welding, only way I'll get one.
I do have a travelling steady, bought in error for the wrong Holbrook, if anyone has a model H 17...
Dave H. (the other one)

I have a travelling steady for a bantam...pretty sure its bantam.Travelling steadies for the Colchesters were fitted as standard equipment so there’s no reason they should be rare... but they are. A bit like the factory toolkit in a car, someone’s always nicked it.
I have fiiiinally found a fixed steady for my Bantam. What a mission that was. I was talking to the guy at Bede tools and he said whilst Bantam spares aren’t necessarily rare, as soon as they hit the market they disappear within a week. I can believe it too, bidding goes crazy whenever bits are listed online.

Cast steel. Very heavy.Loads of chancers looking for above the odds... I was just amazed it realised that price!
What’s that steady made of @spencer 427 ? Mine are aluminium I think. Very light but with steel fingers with bronze tips.

I haven't actually no. I acquired it with some other stuff.Did you do a spark test to see if it was cast iron or steel?
