Rework, I don't like rework. But, as FedEx have gotten lost, I have no varnish. So might as well get it right.

So, I'm fitting windows. Or, at least, trying to.

I've gone through a number of plans to fit this in my head, but keep coming back to simple steel.

No. Just the outer faces. I'll put some decent clear wood treatment on from the inside, protim or something.

I use the Osmo PolyX on my engine trolleys, gives a nice hard wearing finish.

It's damp outside, so I'm working on the window panel. The window is from a "Pacer" or somesuch train. And it's heavy. So the panel needs to be sturdy.

And water tight.

So, lots of bracing, made from whatever I have in stock, mainly box.

I think I've thought of most of the brackets I need, hopefully I can just stick it together now.

your insulating the place use either post at side and a flat piece underneath

as goes for the window have you got a rounded edge window ?

then curve it we use lead on dormer windows

My welding is crap, I think it's my new safety glasses, or something.

Pigeons would be proud.

Anyway, frame brace made, and, after a bag of crisps, I'll glue it together. Then I'll do more varnishing.

Glued and riveted. I'm going to varnish now. Had enough of steel for a bit.

I find the second coat of varnish good on much faster, for some reason. It's raining, but the gutters are working so I can get it done.

Ready for zinc primer. Maybe today. Got other things to do.....

And sealed up all gaps, plus paint. First coat.

Third coat brings it together. Put a few boards up tonight, temporary bolts again.

I ran out of light, I am expecting to have to tweak the last couple of boards to get the gaps right. I'm building in expansion, assuming that the weather won't get any dryer.

I've also noted that I'm re drilling some holes in completely different places, yet others on the same board are almost perfect. It's as if there a bow upward in the middle that the first restorer compensated for. I might look at re propping the steel joists to take account of that. I'll get the string out again.

Nope, no bow in the wagon; the previous owner just didn't do a great job. I am measuring the distance between the top of the plank and the top of the frame each board. I think he just piled them in.
