British Rail 12 ton vented wagon conversion

End panels, sanded, re drilled, and with a first coat of paint. Hoping to do a second coat this evening.

Second coat on, dries fast, that stuff. And a test fit of the screws. To get the same size as the original, but long enough to go through the insulation, and in stainless, would be a fortune, so I'm going with thinner screws and cups. Should be fine.

I'm going to have to trim the panels on the sides. They're still too wide, no clearance.

Rawlplugs for the top row, as no backing timber, no half posts that high up . . .

I've messed up one of the outer panels, so will leave that until I'm doing the side wall... Ah well.

Well, they DO work, I think. Too dark to really see, but the alignment looks good so far.....

It's raining and dark, so I've made up a temporary light. It's now raining so hard I'm reluctant to go over to the wagon!

The plan(!) for today is to get the second side panels painted fully. So I can fit next week. I'm booked to help eldest take an engine apart this weekend. And to get a list of parts for the rebuild. So that's a priority.

So I switched to the other end of the wagon, cleared the masking tape and went looking for steel

And found some.

And I made a plinth thing.

Which I varnished.

For a box thing.

Which I painted.

I'm hoping to fit those tomorrow. Other demands permitting.

Only one more panel to fit, bit as that's going to take some work and the workshop has an engine being disassembled, then I'll need to wait until that's clear....
