Didnt manage a great deal today, before I can finish the floor and get the chassis leg welded on the Bottom A post area wanted checking, standard trim for these is the big full length plastic sill covers which hide a multitude of sins! the whole sill on this side is pretty horrid looking having had a few big MOT patches over the years

Popped a chunk off the front to see what's hiding, Oh that doesn't look bad at all considering the sunroof drains into that corner as well, just means the whole sill needs to come off now, luckily I've a couple of new old stock genuine sills which should make a nice job

That side ^^^ of the inner sill looked pretty good but the other side was really rusted/pitted and thinned, spent ages faffing about with various chemicals trying to clean/treat it

Bit the bullet and cut a section out of the donor which was much nicer

Welded and tidied, much better

I have a 92 Vauxhall Carlton gsi3000 24v I'm here in Ireland and it's a joke nobody wants to do welding on anything it's a shame a lot of cars are getting broke for parts because nobody will do any work on them.. You are absolutely gifted at what you do I'll pop mine on the boat some weekend to you if your free and you can call me when it's ready

You have some very nice collection there mine needs work on the sills and bulkhead I would love to go at it myself but I'd probably leave it looking like a robin reliant by the time I'm finished

Sills wont be too bad, bulkhead could be a monster job, there is so much to pull out before you even think about metalwork

Grabbed a couple hours again as the phone was quiet, trimmed and tacked

You'd put the nail bar girls to shame really tidy work.
Personally owned a fair few Cavaliers but never had a Carlton.
Loved my Cavalier CDI, then got an SRI130 - that was fun in the day.

Nails is my weekend job, sheep/goats etc
There were a lot of good Vauxhall/Opels around in the 80s 90s just the badge put a lot of ill informed people off

Progress has stalled slightly, thought I had a new outrigger/jacking point thingy which ties the chassis rail into the A post but the new one is Omega B, almost identical in design/size but about an inch shorter as the Omega Bs chassis rails are further apart, the old one is extremely battered and made of some thick old stuff so its going to take some beating to make it look anything, anyone got any heat near LN11 ??

While im putting off that job ^^^^ the inner wing to bulkhead flangy thing needed sorting, the rust had got it in places and the one from the donor had been a bit mashed on removal

So chopped some sections out of the short/mashed one and glued them in my old one, attacked with the discs of shame and happy with that

The wiggly bit from above poked in the join between the bulkhead and inner wing, everything pulled up tight and welded

Wing to footwell and I think that's the wing/leg assembly all welded now

Not had a lot of time as the weather is good so catching up on outside stuff, been putting this outrigger/jacking point thingy off for ages, its its a job to see in the photo but its all bent in and crushed from clumsy jacking, its thick and ive no heat so out with the big hammers!

A bit of time clanging around got it looking ok, happy with that so it got dunked in the citric

Got a bit of time today between outside stuff and sheep deliveries so a bit of reinforcement from bits of 3mm scrap to help it getting squished from clumsy jacking hopefully,
Not the prettiest but none of it is seen once fitted

Welded and tidied, looks like im getting to the stage where I need to make a mess with some painty stuff
