That jacking point is definitely fit for purpose.

Thats the problem its not the official jacking point but the tyre monkeys just poke a jack under and pump, the proper place is that little half circle cut out where it joins the inner sill, outer sill and A post

Not done much for a while but a bit of progress this weekend, been putting off the scuttle panel where the windscreen bonds on, its had a few new screens over the years so any paint has been scratched/damaged by the fitters so we have some nice rusty bits

The required replacement needs a flange and its curved both ways, a bit of creative tooling from MDF gets me this with the sheet clamped between the MDF

Flange tapped over so it should keep its shape

Nearly sorted just needs a weeny bit of tidying up

Out with the old, in with the new, tacked in place ready for final blobbing

You work with the tools you have, if you haven't got the tools/equipment you cobble something together to do the job! I turned 60 this year and im still learning stuff
As Paul said its an R25-28 gearbox which bears a lot of similarities to the Getrag boxes, I dont know if they are built under license or similar as the only markings on them are all GM related

The weeks going quick but progress isnt
Fully welded and tidied up

Rescued the wiper linkage mounting bracket and gave it a good soak in citric to get the rust off

Attached and primed to help keep the red stuff away now the weather is turning

Managed a bit more today, both ends of the above panel are gone, not 100% sure how they finished but it got my interpretation

Adjusted the Modular Dual Frame tooling (MDF)

Which after a bit of tapping about got me this

Which when inserted in the correct position finished the end nicely, the gaps will get pumped with some sort of sealer/PU adhesive as per the origional

Other end needs a longer section as its gone crusty where the wiper linkage bracket is fixed

MDFtooling put to use again which gave me this

Just got to wait for the citric to do its stuff on the bracket before Im done on this bit

As the weather has been good and ton of stuff to do outside ive had little time but today was the day!
The bracket from above had good soak in citric and was stuck in place using the wiper linkage to make sure positioning was good, ground back and primed

Now the weather is turning the primer needs something a bit more watertight, got about 80 cans of Fjord Blue which seems to be dark green and the rightish colour for a base coat
Still lots of left over pitting from the rust removal but I can get that with the other coats

Battery tray from a page or so back cleaned and etch weld primed

Stuck in place and the primer tidied up

Rattle canned to seal it a bit from the damp hopefully

Slam panel next, the origional is pretty scanky, one end was missing where it was badly rotted and nothing is available but I do have a new one for the baby engined cars, the downside being the radiator/oil cooler/air con rad mountings are different

A bit of picking about left me with something useable, the origional rad mounting brackets will need work but they will fit in the citric acid bucket now!

The other small problem is the new one is pre-facelift so the indicator fits in is slightly different

A bit of MDF tooling to help do some shaping

Thats got it pretty close, just a mirror image for the other end now

Reshaped the other end

Spent far too long derusting/rubbing down and priming the side panels

A quick test/fitup and measure before weldering commences

Doesn't look much different but wrestled and contorted with the spot welder and its stuck for good

Not set up for spraying at present but a decent coat of rattle can primer to try and keep the rust a bay now the weather has turned damp, should be able to get a coat of something waterproof on it tomorrow

Got to start working towards the back, been putting this bit of floor off for a while

The only trouble is this crossmember that connect to the inner sill, looks might crusty where it all joins, I could pretend I didnt see it, clean it up and slather it with something

A tea and a smoke made me see sense so off with the sill to see how far the rust has gone in, many spotwelds later

Its off, looks amazingly good inside, still got the factory wax just covered in grime, a wee bit of rust on the lower flange which will clean off a treat
I can now get to the spotwelds of the crossmember flange easily to split it from the inner sill to see whats going on

Opened me flange up!
Bit of chemical cleaning, few more goes and it will come up ok

Great thread, cracking workmanship - well done. I don't know much about these vehicles, is this the hot one that copper got caught 'testing' at 130mph or whatever?
