If it is just me in the house she will sleep in the open. But if the house is empty or there is other people she will hide and watch you.
Still very timid, still scared of phones, camera and new items.
But being a rescue cat I am not surprized.

I like cats and would really like to get one but unfortunately won't due to various reasons, at my age all the kids have left and the missus and myself like to get away for holidays so no one to look after one, and I can't bring myself to have it looked after in a cattery whilst we travel. Plus we like having the wildlife around the place, lots of birds and lizards which would soon be killed. I also wouldn't like to keep it locked up as cats by their nature like to roam, our neighbour across from us recently lost her cat as it strayed into another neighbours yard that had a dog which mauled it, we live in a rural area so most houses have at least one or two dogs plus there are lots of largish carpet snakes around us which would make a meal of it. Our dog died a couple of years ago but we didn't replace it due to the holiday reason but at heart I am a cat person.

It's been a while but from memory I was able to leave my cats alone for days, but I was lucky because mine didn't over eat, so if I left out a lot of food they would just eat what they need, and I had a friend check in on them regularly. But they were furious about being left alone and they made it clear when I would return. Maybe a neighbour could come and feed them for you.

Most cats will survive against dogs and foxes, your neighbours cat might have got unlucky with the dog, most cats can take on a dog, they are faster, more flexible and they will claw the dogs eyes and face.

Usually from 3 days to a week at a time, but in April we went away for a month on a road trip up north , and another month last year, where we went on a 5K road trip down south, so it is too long to be away from a pet. Cats can hold a grudge and there is nothing worse than a cat who doesn't like you and feels that you abandoned it, they also generally find another owner.

If I left food out, every rat, mouse, magpie and cane toad in the neighbourhood would be well fed. Did I mention we have lots of wild life around us?

I used to go away for 1 or 2 days and just left dry food and water out for the cats. They had a cat-flap so they could come and go as they pleased. When I came home they'd be sat on the pavement and as soon as they saw my car pull up would get up and jump on the bonnet and generally make a fuss. On one occasion I found a dead mouse on the floor near my desk.

One cat had her head bitten off by a fox, another was absolutely fearless and viscous with dogs. She'd make a point of going for them and took a while to come back down. On one occasion while she was still high she slashed right through my leather boot with her claws. Otherwise she was really friendly and affectionate.

Mhairi, the tonkinese - no fear and follows you around the house. Only scratches or bites if you stop patting her and brings in bats, moles, voles, mice, birds pretty much multiple times a day!

We have a moggy too, who is less highly strung...

I have always been a Dog person but years ago we had a lodger called Debbie, she came complete with two cats. She got married & moved out then cat 1 got squashed by a lorry, cat 2 came back to live with us. Jasper was a very large neutered tom who had come from a factory as a feral stray. He was a friendly old chap who was getting on a bit. We got a new dog a large lurcher & the first time they met the dog went for him. There was a terrible kerfuffle & the dog learnt that Jasper was not to be messed with. They became the best of friends & would often sleep on the same sofa. Jasper got kidney trouble & his heart failed at the age of 21. I took him to the vet & he was PTS. THere must have been some dust blowing around cos some sure got in me eye!

We had an old Tom like that, I think he was 18-19 when he got ill. Those vets must need filters in the air conditioning though as I also had a lot of dust in my eyes...

Funny how they get under your skin. When I split with my last girlfriend I found myself missing her cat more than I missed her! Over the next couple of years I ended up with 22 cats, so all's well that end's well.

Sorry folks no pictures.
Wanted to wash so alloy melting down, it was full of ash and rubbish fro a big fire.

Quick check, Tom hiding in her safe place, beside my chair.

Nip out, gather the lumps of melted alloy, jus need to contact mad Feng shui lady now.


From no were, like a bolt of lightening comes Tom.
Attacking the water jet, the leaks from the hose nozzle, in fact having a mad old time. I was doing my Cheshire cat impression.

Then up on my shoulders for attention. A quick towel dry and she is now purring away, in the sun, on the bed, on a towel.

I wish I knew why cameras and phones scare her so much.

This is our Cat....Called Tinky, We wanted a Female, and was sold a female. Couple months down the Line, Tinky had grown what we thought was "Large Feline Camel Toe". But, it was a huge pair of fluffy balls. We still call Him a "She" and is still called Tinky.

We have had tinky for 13 months, We got Tinky at 8 weeks. "She" wanted the cat, so i put my foot down, if she wanted it, she had to feed it, clean it, empty the litter bins, pay the vets bills...It was going to be HER Cat...

But, Tinky is very much MY Cat now, Love the little furball to absolute pieces. I was going through a very bad state of depression when tinky arrived and tinky pulled me out of it. She saved me...

Equally as much, Im so bloody attached to this cat, i left the door open for more than 5 seconds few months back and thought Tinky had got out....Que a 3 hour frantic search for her, tipped the house upside down, called in family members far and wide to come search the local area (We are surrounded by fields) and i was an emotional wreck. Turns out she had decided to take a nap under the cooker for a change.

Its true. Cats enter your home, steal your heart and make you their slave. I would not change it for the world.

Our female cat has brought a few bats home, it was rather a surprise the first time but you get used to it. She also has a thing for frogs, little so and so brings them home alive and lets them go in the lounge so she can hunt them all over again. Did you know frogs scream?, I didn't, and I can tell you it's the most blood curdling sound I've ever heard.
