My daughter has a small round globe in a self containing dish . It has a low voltage mains stepped down supply and a quiet as a dead mouse water pump . The cats licks of the tiny trickle of water that comes out the globe's central hole .. evidently cats love chlorine free & other chemical free oxygenated water such as they could get from a clean flowing stream.Ours was the same. Not sure where I read this , but, Keep the water away from the food, ie across the room. It’s something to do with a primal instinct about contaminated water. Ours would be the same as yours and ignore water next to food, and drink from a glass in the bedroom ? We moved the water bowl and hey-presto he now drinks the water from the bowl !
worth a try with yours.
Is that why in days of sailing ship all ships had a Pusser's cat that survived being at sea ?Cats have the most efficient kidneys of any mammal. They can drink salt water with no ill effects. Or so I read somewhere.

Weirdly these two have become friends,
If they're not sitting together they're running around playing nature ..

Sorry to hear thatUnfortunately he lost his friend this morning, bunny died after being spayed yesterday
Aw lovely to see him home safe and soundStill no Jasper this morning at 10.00 despite me calling him & sounding off on his feed bowl with a serving fork . ( done it every meal time since he went missing 8 days ago . Deeply saddened we loaded up all his cans & pouches of food save for five pouches of chicken in gravy , did the same whth chews , toys beding etce tetc etc to give to my daughter for her two cats.
Neither of us really felt like celebrating with a meal for a birthday or the an engagement , didn't really fel like partying but we have to move on with life I suppose.
So once everything was delivered to our daughters we went with our 21 yr old daughter (still suffering badly from covid 19 [ unconfirmed at the time ] that struck us as a family way back in Nov 2019 ( Yes 2019 ). & her future legal husband
We had a sort of celebration lunch and was deeply upset to see just how bad the covid has left her .... nine flake out's in the restaurant in just over an hour . Hospital doing loads of tests & admission observations for several days at a time. .
So you can imagine the journey back home wasn't done in the happiest of hearts for either Alison or I .
Al got in the house before me , as I came through the gate & about to close it .. who should come waltzing up the garden path with tail held high and a little waving to me at the tip whilst singing his songs to me but Jasper , scabby starving hungry and nearly as thin as when we got him six months ago .
He fair ran into the house when I opened the door , Al shed a few tears I didn't but some pesky sand really got in my eyes & made them water a bit for a second or two
Al fed him , he's gulped down two packets of chicken & gravy cat food , first one in just over a minute .
He won't leave us alone & has been purring non stop beside the eating session .. amazing ........previously he'd rarely ever purred in the 6 months we've had him.
Boy is he skinny or what .. at a guess he's been locked in a shed for 8 days & got out some time this afternoon. If so I wonder how his thirst has affected his kidneys .

Glad he came back. I’m not a fan of collars on cats but perhaps an Apple Airtag would be the answer.
AirTag
Attach AirTag to everyday items, like your keys or a backpack, to easily keep track of them in the Find My app.www.apple.com
