I've spent the last 24 hours doing acid... on some of my my old Honda's chrome.
I filled a bucket with hot water and added about 1 Kg, mixed it then poured into a handy big plastic bin.
I did the front wheel, 60 degrees at a time:

and you can put citric acid on pancakes if you run out of lemon jiuceShame you didnt have a warm vinegar one running side by side so we could compare the results! I like the vinegar idea because it seems less likely to cause me damage because i put it on my chips neat too!

Yep, I didn't use the usual 1:4 / 1:19 powder to water ratio I usually use.I think you need to up the conc. there. They should be nice grey steel in an hour or so.
Good question; I believe that citric does get between particles of rust and help 'soften them up' even before much dissolution occurs.Will citric avoid me having to use a slitting disc? I will find out on Wednesday.
The 1979 Honda's centre stand pivot is (commonly) seized, ceasing proper operation.
Left in this state, eventually the frame's mounting holes go ovoid and it gets all sloppy down there.
If you don't have any alcohol, a drop of detergent would probably help.
Most detergents are alkaline so will neutralize the acid!

Alkaline, as far as I know. It's only ones for sensitive skin which are neutral-ish?
