Bees wax and linseed oil. Works well.

I just did one of the rear discs from the Clio. I was loathe to pay the high price for new ones as these were totally unworn (no noticeable lip), due to the car being a 172 Cup, which doesn't have much rear brake effort.

I made a faux pas not removing the bearing though. I only realised afterwards that it is removable.. judging by the circlip. (They are sold with bearing installed).

What ratios are people using? I used 15g : 400ml and seemed to react quick enough with hop tap water (but not active heat source).

I used to use Deox-C but given the cost switched to citric. I can't really see the difference in performance tbh. I just follow the instructions for Deox-C and substitute citric acid. All the above were 19:1, latterly just mixed with hit water from the tap then left on the boiler or on a hot day out in the sun. To keep things simple I've just been measuring 400ml of powder in a jug. Sling that in your container and add 2L hot water. Top up with hot if it doesn't quite cover. Mix well and drop your part in.

Deox-C instructions attached as a PDF. I think it's been discussed before but Deox-C some think has some secret ingredient to give in the edge. My money's on a detergent of some kind. I keep meaning to add some Fairy Liquid to see if that affects the process.

I add citric until no more dissolves.
And a glug of Asda washing up liquid does seem to make a difference for the better.

That's a plan actually. Trouble is it's not my wood shed and there's loads of other cr@p in amongst the floor debris.

I have a rack hanging on the back of the workshop door and while I have been working away it seems the rain has been getting blown in through a vent and right onto some of the tools/holders.
This was the worst one.

Left it in a few hours and it has come out like this.

Not sure what the grey coating is, will have to investigate. Wonder if it may help to stop rust in the future or if it will promote more

Tried a stainless wheel in the drill on the collet holder and it didn't budge the grey colouring so...
Will just oil but will leave a bit to see if it aids or prohibits rust.

What process shall I follow up with once de-rusted?

All the stuff I am doing is running gear on a car. I am thinking a kind of primer (etch?) and paint. Will use VHT stuff as I have brakes too.
