After much thought I decided to remove the factory bulkhead and make a better one.
I am at the limit of removing any more without bracing...technically it should be fine as most of the structural surrounding areas are still intact.are you not worried about everything moving out of line / twisting...
you seem to be removing a lot of "structure" without bracing, would it not be easier to add temporary supports to make sure it stays stable while you repair the surrounding areas?
I decided to do the bulkhead for a couple of reasons...one is where the car had sat for a long while a lot of rust and corrosion had got between the seems...secondly I had repaired the bulkhead previous but was not overly happy with the results...also the strut brace I will make will connect to the bulkhead...I did think about it for a long time..approached all angles and took many reference points...and your correct it is very critical it goes exactly in the correct position..maybe challenge for sure.."Better" in what way???
Ive never seen anyone go to the trouble of recreating the bulkhead before.. Steering rack location is pretty critical so it'll be interesting to see how you retain the factory location as well as brace it onto your bulkhead to stop flex...
I hope so...it's taking time but I am enjoying the challenge.Serious fabrication going on, car will be a different animal after everything gets done.
I would of liked to got a bit more done but had this flu bug that's been going about...it's totally knocked the hell out of me...Nice to see someone else working on French "non classic" stuff. Watching with interest, although chopping out the whole bulkheads pretty hardcore and Ive never seen that done!
Very nice project.
I suspect you've seen it, but if not this may be of some inspiration
