Forum advice is worth what you pay for it.

You told us 6 threads over 10mm*. That would be 18 threads over 30mm. 1/4 BSP is 19 threads per inch (25.4mm) so it was never going to be that.

* do you mean six thread tips/points, which is five thread pitches?

You misread the tone of my post. 123hotchef appeared to be complaining about the advice you gave him. To me, that is unfair, as you would not deliberately set out to mislead him.

By his own hand and his own measurements, he has the information available to confirm or deny the suggestion you made.

An £5.54 thread gauge (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stainless-Thread-Imperial-Cutting-Measuring/dp/B08MT6KYVW) is better than any picture and is a life investment.

Calm down lads, It's not worth falling out over. Just done some checking, according to the info supplied by the OP. The part number is ZXSED14C3. just a thought, as it has happened, Has the end of the filter snapped off and the end stuck in the hole? That obviously would make the hole too small for another filter to fit

No the thread is in my hands it's just old and brittle now. I have a thread gauge I guess I should use it. Yes 6 thread tips.

that part number does not come up with anything when I goole it.

well I tried the thread gauge on it and none of them matched! but the gauges do not have BSP or NPT on it

Well, it was a bit slow today. So I amused myself by getting some of the filters out of the compressor boxes and measuring them. The ones that fit the 3hp motors are a smaller thread than the smaller compressors. so there are two sizes and, me bad, they are the same thread pitch as air fitting. I will phone our tech department tomorrow up to see if the filter thread sizes have changed through the years, as that is an older compressor

Both 1/4 and 3/8 bsp have a tpi of 19. 1/4 bsp has an approx od of 13.16mm and 3/8 bsp has an approx od of 16.66mm

I just measured it 15mm diameter.
