As for the pitch, is it 5 or 6 threads on 10mm...?
Try it against some known metric threads pitches.


Anyway, do you need to know the thread...or can you not just order a new filter.

I can and will order a pair of new filters but for my sanity I'd like to know the thread size. Metric is too corse on standard m15 as I orders m15 filters from amazon

Just try it side by side with an m10x1.5 bolt, standard thread.

Ignore the diameter, ignore the vernier, don't worry about screwing anything together. Just hold them side by side. That with conform if it's 1.5mm pitch.
If not, try it with an M8 or M12.

No,no, no. If you cannot determine the thread size and pitch. Keep buying more expensive and elaborate tools until you do.

it is none of the 1.25 or 1.5 pitch 1.5 is close but it dont fit properly on my thread gauges

Try some of the imperial thread gauges.

The 'not quite 1.5mm pitch' might be 16 tpi [coarser than 1.5mm pitch] or 18 tpi [finer than 1.5mm pitch].

1.25mm is finest, then 19tpi, then 18tpi then 1.5mm then 16 tpi.

Even if you buy OEM replacements, don't throw away the old part with the male thread on it. It can be used as a pattern to make an adaptor to a common thread.

Maybe 'pattern' was the wrong term. Someone with different measuring tools (a toolmaker's microscope or optical projector) could work out the actual pitch and make an identical replacement. It is always easier if you have a male thread to duplicate something. Only having a female thread makes things considerably more difficult.

You may find because it's probably a moulded plastic part, and on a taper, the gauge look to be a fraction out.

Based on the image in post #25, the thread is parallel, not tapered.
