Classic bikes - a worthwhile investment?

Hi , its not me ,,, its a you tube video , but the guy just sets everything up so well ... I actually used to go out for a Sunday morning spin with about four or five police riders ,,,,, very educational just being in their company , as mentioned their lines and forward planning as well as faith in the machines was something you have to experience to believe , we all rode BMW GSs ,,, so all you had to do was follow and believe [ I still swear theres were faster , handled better and stopped quicker than mine ] but if you ever get the chance to do the police aware and evaluation course ,,, if they still do it ,, jump at the chance.

Northamptonshire police did one years back and it was a really good weekend, learned loads of simple tricks

A Laverda Jota popped up for sale on facebook, 1K seemed cheap. Not sure what the spares situation is with some of the Italian exotics but if doable it would make a sound investment and a nice ride.

No it was advertised as needing a full restoration and it was 1k, didn't think it would be on there long

Looking at the clip-ons and the foot pegs combined with that long tank and small seat, that machine must of been designed by the Elizabethans for the torture of witches..2 laps of the town square and your begging to admit all your guilt's to the Royal council

Purely a Production Racer. Very successful in the right hands like Peter Williams and Mick Hemings. Had it been in the UK I would probably have put in a big bid. Lots of replicas about, almost as many as Velocette Thruxtons or Rocket Gold Stars, so provenance is all.
My 350 Greeves Oulton is one of only 21 that were made, only about a dozen known, some in collections in Japan, Australia and America so desirable to a collector.

Very smart & understated - looks in fantastic order too .
The understated more subtle custom paint job is terrific - the more subtle colours probably makes the bike more appealing to more people. That said, when I decided to get one, I figured if I was getting a bike this oddball - then go the whole hog - so I bypassed the "Burnt Orange" and headed straight to the Lime Green as the one to have

I liked them ,, just an R with a sporty front headlight and a single seat ,,, then again I like the ST too and no one else seems to ,,, then again I also have a R1200s in the garage ,, the thinking mans Ducati ,, [ almost].

Actually an R1200S may fall into the odd enough to be interesting bracket ,,, just ,

I had an R1100S and really like the looks of the R1200S, would be a safe investment too, never seen cheap ones. Ducati ST3 another one I like the look of, even ST2's seem to fetch decent money

Tbh, everything becomes a classic at some point no matter what it’s background. The way to do It is to buy a bike you actually like as it hits rock bottom and about to approach transition state. Enjoy the use and maintenance, keep it for a few years and it will go up in value. Every vehicle has a different group of people that want and follow them so part of the fun is learning what sort of person wants/ likes/is a certain age/has the money for….. etc for that group. It gives you an idea how the next owner would value the vehicle your now going to sell to them.

I always wanted the burnt orange version but they weren’t around at the time I was looking and now they’ve all turned up like busses. The green version always clashed with the blue frame in my mind and I hated matt colours from a maintenance point of view although what I did like was the theme style of coloured wheels, frame and tank decals over a very dark background. I always leave stuff in OEM keeping so it always looks factory std.

I was one of the few riding Jap bikes in the 70's, we always had to factor in breakdown time when going anywhere with the British bikes
