CNC Plasma cutter, start of bits buying.

A quick question on here perhaps a knowledgeable person could answer.

Seen ballscrews that all look the same but end with different letters, anyone know the difference?

Can you explain please what the letters DAU DUK WFR etc. all
mean?
As in
L600mm SFU1204 Ball Screw Single Ballnut Ballscrew DAU
L600mm SFU1204 Ball Screw Single Ballnut Ballscrew WFR
L600mm SFU1204 Ball Screw Single Ballnut Ballscrew DUK

None seem to be end machined to fit anything so getting confused.

im sure there is two members over on mycncuk would know the answers to that.
most over there use a guy called chia from china i think for there ballscrews.
and he machines the end's to your specifications.

Not sure what the codes mean but try to get the right one....
When I built my CNC machine I bought ball screws and had the end machined by an Engineering company.
The guy was a very experienced machinist but he really struggled to machine them because they were so hard

Yes, the different codes relate to the 'format' of the leadscrew nut - flange shape, number and position of mounting holes etc., unhelpfully those listings are mostly showing just one type which means you can't spot the difference.

i dont think they show as listing, if you click on items for sale in the profile.

but will order ballscrews for lathe conversion, and ballscrews and rails for a cnc table build when i start these projects.

He is very trustworthy - no problems with anything I've bought from him. For the bits I ordered recently he sent me a paypal invoice (in USD) which paypal let me pay in GBP at the relevant exchange rate.

Don't go thru Ebay it will cost you more as he charges fee's.

He's 100% trust worthy so just do it thru paypal.
Nothing to watch out for except you will get charged Vat and handling fee of around £10-15.
Vat is worked out on invoice total so it pays to ask him to keep it down on paper work.!

Ideally get them machined as well, if you are using pullies then you probably want longer spigots than standard ...

I finally got a delivery , been waiting for the ball screw for a few weeks now, got it un-machined and turned down the ends for 8mm in the lathe, did it with the nut still on as I have a question, what happens to the balls if I take the nut off the thread, do they stay in place?

May be a simple question to some but did not want to risk it.

When I was finishing my apprenticeship they were teaching me how to restore some lathes we had. If I remember correctly I removed the housing from the screw of one I replaced and couldn't get them back together, that was a few years ago so I may be wrong but I wouldn't pull them apart personally.

Don't want to pull them apart but may need to to assemble final drive. Will have to have a think on it, must be a way.

You need a sleeve that is the same as the minor diameter of the thread and will slip over the spigots then you unscrew the nut over the sleeve.... making sure it dies not fall out... I'll take a pic later if I remember

I asked gerrymoore what speed he uses and he gave around 900mm so I can go faster then that, I think at the moment top end is 1.5 metres per minute.

It will be a suck and see!

you can always change that with pulley ratio's
but im sure you know that

that one of the good things about using pulleys and belts, over direct drive.
and i also guess you don't get vibration from the motors etc.

Yes but as usual its a trade off between step distance and speed,.

The way I have it at the moment the pulse distance is 0.05 mm on the X axis and I can probably get the speed up on that quite easily.
The Y axis being directly driven at half step intervals is very fine at 400 pulses per 4mm or 0.01 mm pulse distance is I think the slowest axis, time will tell.

Looking at the video it is faster then me by hand.

It's a learning thing.
