Progress report.
Started stripping down the saddle today. Some serious crud in there. Now I cant remove the saddle until i remove the feed screw ect..joy...

How far are you going mate. Full strip or just get it running right. I started with the latter and decided I might as well go the whole hog as I'd taken so much apart already.

My first intentions was to just basic clean up. But with so much crud built up it really needs strip down. The headstock is all ok. The saddle is full of crud. So unfortunately it's feed screw out before I can take the apron and saddle off..next year will take it apart and give it a fresh paint job

Evening guys. Do any of you no if this is a left hand or right hand thread. I got to undo this to start the removal procedure of the feed shaft... Can't find no information.

I don't know but as it can revolve in both directions then I see no need for a left hand thread.

That's what I was thinking. But didn't want to go gently tapping it just in case

Don't be shy, give it a good whack with a copper hammer, it has been there for 50 years
If it doesn't move then try the other way, will just need a slightly heavier whack

iits a locking ring so should just be right hand thread if u haven't a c spanner use a brass or copper drift on it

I was thinking the same, there's no need for it to be left handed if it has a lock ring, it can't move either direction.

Yes. My lathe tooling is very limited. I have a hook spanner. Same thing . Failing that as you say. A drift.

a good sharp tap with drift and hammer will
loosen it without damage

Pretty sure the locking ring for that is on the inside of the gearbox.

Yes. That's the one with the grub screw in it.

Feed shaft out after a bit of study .
Not to difficult once you get a jist of the parts.

Looking at that photo has the gap been ground to gain a little more swing clearance?
