Ok. I did experiment with tapes and stuff but I don't create enough tension on it's outside edge. So what you do is get a G16 grip Tye. Do the grip tye up but leaving enough room to pop the bearings in. On mine the bearing hole spacing is no equal so it leaves an area where you want the grip tye lock to be. Once you have the bearings in do the Tye up and it will create enough tension to seat the bearings. You then place the the round handle over the other part and slowly press down. Now this is the trick. While pressing down take a pair of cutters and snip the plastic lock of the grip tye. Don't cut it right off. Just a snip to release a bit of tension. Keep pressure on as you do this a they pop right in. Hope that makes sense. Will post pictures.

Someone did mention a grip tye. So that idea is the best way.

Well I got all my cross slide cleaned and oiled. Works lovely. Nice and smooth. Only to realise I have a bent cross slide leed screw.

Guys. I been cleaning up some of the threads on the cross slide ect. Now the manual says that they are all unc threads. But when I measure up against my pitch gauge it says Whitworth.

Whitworth and UNC are, for the most part, the same TPI, 1/2" is different, Whit being 12TPI and UNC being 13TPI.
The angles of the thread itself is different, Whit being 55 degree and UNC 60 degree but in most cases you can get away with mixing them as usually the tolerances are wide enough.

One other thing, the manual is for a Mk1.5 where yours is a Mk1, so it is possible on yours that it is Whit and they later changed to UNC. If you can find a 1/2" bolt you will know for sure

Just measured the thread on the end of the cross slide lead screw where the round handle bolts on. Definitely saying unc as Whitworth will not fit....so unc it is

Slow progress today. Took me ages to get the swivel slide apart. Someone previous has attacked it with a hammer. After finally getting it apart and cleaned I sussed out why it was not sliding...the bottom part of the swing slide has developed a very slight warp/bend in it. So I managed to flatten out most of it with 800 grit and some 2 in 1 oil. Not the best solution but got to try salvage as much as possible until I can get a replacement.

Tool post clean up. Had the whole thing in bits. Some serious crud built up inside. Got to make another tool post stud because this one that came with it ain't worth a toss.
