colchester institute run a good eveing course,two nights a week one theory one practical,cost £860,covers mig,tig,mma,gives you a level 2 qual,they do three years to get to to diploma level,instructers are pretty good.

Shrewsbury sounds good but a bit of a trek for a couple of hours a week.

Hi all. Im considering attending a part time evening couse at oxford and cherwell valley college and wandered if anyone has done this course? Or anyone know of any other courses in Oxfordshire?

Its pretty expensive, are these courses really worth it for a hobby welder? Want to be sure its the right thing before I part with my cash Thanks all

Did you find anything local?? I know a guy who might give you some one to one tuition for a few quid but would have to ask him first..

I nearly fell through the floor when they quoted me over £800 for the level 3 TIG city & guilds at Chester Further Ed college. Needless to say i never signed up as I just couldnt afford it. Even the concession for the unemployed wouldnt have helped me if i had not had a job, as they have scrapped that too!

What are the prices for the C&G welding courses at other colleges ?

Hi everyone

Iv been working for a company in Frome, Somerset for about 6 months now. This company is called The Bicycle Academy.

What we do here is teach people to make a bicycle frame, with files and brazing. That's not all though. We offer a few different courses, from one day 'Master Classes' to two week 'Advanced Framebuilding'.
I personally teach a TIG welding master class, fillet brazing and the lug brazing master class is taught by Robin Mather.
All the framebuilding courses are on a 2 students to 1 teacher basis, while the master classes are 1 to 1. So you will absolutly get the attention you require when learning your chosen skill.
At this moment in time we can't offer any qualifications for what you learn here (although we are in the process of sorting this), but you will definitly leave with the ability to build more frames, or weld like a champ. We are also in the process of establishing a training programe for Bromton, because we can teach in one day what it takes them 3 months.

We have taught people with absolutly no skills, to famebuilding profesionals that are looking to improve their brazing. So you know we are able to tailor the courses you your specific needs and requirements.

Hi guys, I really need to find a part time/evening welding course in Liverpool? I currently do some welding in work at the moment but they won't take me on as a welder 'cos I'm not qualified but I don't want to miss out on this opportunity. Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi guys,

Northumberland college has a Mig and Tig course running on an evening starting next week. Unsure whether to do a course. It's only level 1?
I've self taught arc welding to a degree, and some no gas mig welding. Never tried anything else.

Thought I would re-open this post with part of an email I got from a training establishment. I had asked if they could do any form of welding/fabrication course that could lead to a recognised qualification.

"unfortunately we cannot do a programme that would qualify you as a skilled welder/fabricator at the end - this is mainly due to you not currently being with a supporting employer in the same field.

I have attached an overview of our welding principles course for your perusal and should you wish to proceed then please just reply letting me know and I can arrange for booking form to be sent out for you."

I am going to go on the course offered which is 3 days from principals MMA, MIG and TIG, because there is nothing else.

Most colleges seem to offer only apprentice based training assuming one has the back-up of a welding company to give you the hands on and end up with NVQ type quals.

Ah well it's a start.

T2000 is that? What are you yourself looking to get from this 3 day intro course? I do know were you can do C&G etc at night school. 3 day 3 processes ? that's really just an overview not going to be worth much to someone looking to actually do the job.

Yes it is T2000 and yes the basic 3 day 3 processes for £450. Most other seem to need the basic done first, will pm.

Not really a college doing this but a training establishment called Training 2000 in Blackburn.
