So you, based on a few lines I have posted, are now inferring that without the aid of the van I would have crashed?

The reason it surprised me was because I was already on the brakes, and the van decided to brake much harder

Absolutely no inference intended. How could I know ? However if the wonder of modern technology decided to brake harder than yourself then perhaps you were a little late on the brakes. Who could tell.

I suspect even though we all think we’re the bees knees at driving, technology might have helped us out in the past. Abs being one fine example I can think of.

When I was involved in the car industry I was told by those who knew that the prime reason for ABS was to enable the driver to brake as hard as possible without loosing directional control. As in locking the front wheels thus leaving the driver with no steering. It was not intended to reduce braking distances although it had that side effect. I admit I did take that with a grain of salt but subsequent demonstration and testing did prove their point.

Just realised today in my car my fan is either fully on or more often just on first speed, either screen or feet and screen, heat is fully hot, fully cold or halfway between, sometimes I put the heated rear screen on.Radio is one of two channels or cd.No sat nav cause I know where I'm going.No cruise control.Knobs and buttons work fine for all that.

At 60mph that's 147 yards . This time . Just got to hope that the unexpected danger doesn't happen in that distance. Or the next.

The first thing a motorcyclist hears as he lays on the road is " Sorry I didn't see you " followed by" you must have been speeding".

When I refurbished the cockpit of my vintage glider I realised that the Flap and retract levers were side by side with identical knobs . An hour in the workshop produced two totally different knobs that could not feel like each other. Looking around to identify which is which was not a good idea. landing is not a situation were a mistake could be easily forgiven.

Landing .. That's a controlled crash .... isn't it ?

Funny that " who would the car listen to " . My wife spent several years or so working from home on a hard wired computer . Interpreting the noises given to satnavs , Siri & other voice recognition systems in use in the UK & Europe .
I think the most common were , " Siri you baitch , do you F**k ? "or , "Where can I get laid ? "

All the icons in the sprinter are blooming huge. To climate control bottom of the dash tactical buttons are far worse than the massive screen icons.

I can't remember what one is were without looking.

I find it strange that using a mobile phone is illegal because has been proven to be a serious distraction, but as soon as its fixed in place it miraculously becomes perfectly safe ....

I also wish mobile phones automatically stopped working over 15mph and you have to deliberately reactivate to use at speed (so passengers can use theirs but as a driver you have to choose to be distracted by a call or other "essential " activity. No doubt some will think this luddite, but when on acall that involves thinking you are able to concentrate on both activities

I think the dead phone when mobile is already being trialed by insurance companies .

I find it easier to just leave the phone to ring out, if its important they will leave a message, if not they didnt want to talk me anyway. Quite often do the same when Im not driving. Saves me speaking to the Aisan gentleman asking for Cheryl about her accident or bad debt, or £52.50 loan application!

When I used to work I got threatened with a disciplinary by my BT boss for not answering my cell phone whilst on several four hour drives. I told him I'd go for a full trade union & HASAW representation . whilst I was driving or up a ladder or in a customers premise the phone stayed in the back of my van switched off . I genuinely think the fool didn't understand the dangers of being distracted whilst driving .

These "features" appear because they have to convince people to buy the latest models. Otherwise they go out of business.

When we got our Brand new Outlander it was quite strange having steering wheel paddles , push buttons & rocker switches to do things . Thank god we didn't get the high end Citroen , just the 2 mile test drive was more than a little unnerving .

Right 300miles today that's with actual work in-between journeys 10hr driving.

At no point did my dash make me end up in a hedge.

Also no you can't surf the internet on Android drive or what ever it's called.

Not if Google/Alexa are anything to go on. She gets called some right names on occasion. Voice assumption would be a better term.

Yeah blame the car Bob inner reflection and all that.



On the flip side yesterday I ruled out a failed vgt and nailed a faulty injector fault didn't even have to tilt the cab Or use a spanner
