I have been raiding Thingiverse for useful things to practice printing. Yesterday I did an oil funnel that bayonets into the oil filler on my N52 engined E61 BMW, printed with eSun ABS+ filament.
With generic ABS profile selected in Creality Print, print speed was much slower than the Creality Hyper PLA as expected making the K1 much quieter but I guess that is not the point of a high speed printer.
I have to say, so far I am very impressed by the K1, it seems easier to use than a lot of the review videos make out, perhaps the benefit of a few months of customer led R&D.

Please excuse the state of my engine bay, it needs a good clean up which it will get when the leaves stop falling off my cherry tree.

Well I now have a K1 Max on its way!

My current machine will therefore be for sale... originally an Ender 3 V2, but with pretty infills and various go faster bits, Micro Swiss direct extrusion hot end, silent main board, BLTouch autolevelling, twin Z screw upgrade and Creality housing.
Not sure what value to put on it though, I may put it onto Ebay.

Single extruder. Benefits in speed and build volume. To go for multi colour would double the cost And not something I need often. Swapping filaments on the fly seems to work for me when I do bicolour parts.

I am also mightily impressed by the ABS funnel that printed perfectly with no prior experience.

I have been absolutely blown away by the K1, the only slight disappointment has been PETG which is a little bit stringy.

Who printed that?

It was me, my first ABS print and only the third print ever on the K1 or any other 3D printer for that matter.

Ah yes I knew I had seen a funnel and it looked great quality. I just assumed the OP knew what he was doing.
You can never really tell. Lol
I have had a bit of time to run test burns on my laser and it seems just as hard as 3D printing ( in a different way).

I don't use my 3D printers enough but still want a K1. Why I don't know buy it would mean selling all my others... and I am a buyer not a seller. I think its an illness.

Works fine on my Elegoo 3d max. Very handy having such a huge build area as well. Real bargain for what you are getting I reckon.

Just checked that out, interesting. We have a Creality CR10S-5 which is 500mm cubed I think, but the bed heating is woeful - essentially a 500 square table with a 300 square heat pad under it.
It was bought so I could produce splash guards for a robot inspection system used on artillery shells - but I can't talk about it on here
In the end I printed the guards vertically which necessitated lots of support, but it worked.

So, for those of us (Still) thinking of starting out on this journey - would all of the upgrades be what we need - or do we just buy a basic Ender V3 for £149?

I was going to list it today as there is a fee discount on. However I would prefer not to even pay that, or deal with idiots, so if you are interested, let's talk! You would be welcome to drop in for a demo too. GL2 8JP

The machine is up to the standard that I need, all the upgrades make it more accurate, more useful or more repeatable. I have no reason to shift it, bar the normal build volume, as I need to produce much bigger stuff. If you want to chat, my shop number diverts to my mobile... 01452-311031

Thanks - I'm afraid I probably fall into the category of idiots and timewasters at the moment as I'm not sure I'm ready to buy RIGHT now, it also still leaves the question of what to pay. If it's too much, I may be better waiting 6 months (I'm in no rush) and saving for a Bambu Labs P1P, that seem to get the rave reviews right now.

You would be welcome regardless. You need to play with something and see what it is all about before you can make up your mind. What to pay is up to you, You can do what I did, buy basic and tweak it or just go for one that suits your needs. I can demo the K1 Max as well as the Ender.

One think I don't like about the K1 is the daft filament route. That makes it so difficult to swap filaments on the fly, whereas on the Ender I arranged it to be quick and easy. It also means that the Ender with MicroSwiss is actually going to perform better with the likes of TPE. The K1 doesn't like it.

It seems to be handling the TPE well. 25mm/s 228/0C.

Make sure that you use a credit card. Creality's after sales service is shocking.
