Suck it and see, i was given a similar option but the antibiotics worked ok, this is about a year ago. This last week a front top tooth which got some kind of root infection back in lockdown (that I self-treated with Teatree Oil!) Came back with a vengeance.
NHS Dentists around here have been practically an extinct species for the last 20-years, & my lot certainly know how to charge!
£116 for an emergency appointment with an x-ray, a brief poke around and a box of Amoxycillin last Wednesday morning, with 2 options...
1. Pull it & replace with an implant. Guide Price: 3 to 4 Grand!
2. Specialist Surgery in Swansea to Root Canal (not guaranteed to work). Guide Price £800!
Option 1 isn't really an option.

National Insurance contributions are a tax not a pension fund so when we retire that money was spent years ago.You do wonder where your National Insurance contributions go, seems we are paying twice for the same service..

Nice food doesn't cause tooth decay as a rule. Ultra processed food and drink I would say are the culprits for that. In 67 years, I have had just one filling and lost one broken Molar, but then I have always disliked fizzy drinks and especially Coke etc.Does seem a shame that young people can't get a NHS dentist - as you grow older - eating nice food is one of the only pleasures you got left...

One other point may be that of growing up in Birmingham, where we had Fluoride in the drinking water.
Edit, totally misread your comment, sorry. You are pointing out that without decent teeth, you can't enjoy your food so much.
Good to know....I was wondering about how long implants last....all the advertising says they're as good as real teeth!Getting the implant encombrants out of your mouth (jaw with a chisel) -
@ajlelectronics - You must agree? - young kids should not lose their second set of teeth early - we are a first world country - we are not living in central Africa.
A dentist cannot do anything until the infection is sorted so wait and see, as i say mine was ok after the antibiotics. Root canal is the option i would choose but as my neighbour said it is a specialist area and after an NHS dentist botch found a specialist to sort it and it is now ok. The specialist dentist found the end of a file in the bottom of the tooth. This last week a front top tooth which got some kind of root infection back in lockdown (that I self-treated with Teatree Oil!) Just remember toothache is not what we want and if there is a problem we want it sorting as soon as possible.Get it scanned and shop around for an implant. I bet there’s other options though, eg., Maryland
