I never make mitres with sharp corners, it works on wood but not for a welded joint, the reason you are struggling to weld it is because the weld metal has nowhere to go, when you clean it off it will just remove the weld and expose the joint, better to cut the lengths 2 material thicknesses shorter and set them up with an open corner joint as in "B" below, for a non critical joint you could even run the weld vertical down this will give you a nice flat bead and will be easier to blend it into the radius of the vertical leg when you weld it on, done properly you will not be able to see where its welded, I would have liked to have seen a vee prep on the butt welds too
