DRO advice?

Did you get a diagram labelling the connections/ can you get one, for the scale and the readout?

Scale came with machine probably original so late 90s , I am waiting for the dro display to come so I can test on that

Got the DRO from China yesterday (I notice they are even cheaper now than when I bought, but not to worry).
First pic shows a sketch connection diagram that I found near the back of the instruction book which came with the DRO.
Second pic is a plug connection diagram for a linear scale advertised on eBay.
Will that scale work with the DRO that I have please?

@Bsmith Put simply - no. The manual says RS (EIA) 422 signal, the scale is TTL 5v. Did you order a 422 signal display?
It may be that the board will take a TTL 5V signal and the conversion from 422 to TTL is done at the socket, this is how Aikron does it, but that is something you would have to look into.

The manual says TTL doesn't it? Specification number 7. The scale is TTL too.

I understand that the signal wires would need changing around to get them to match. I'm confused.

This is the display that I have. Maybe just me but I seem to be having difficulty finding scales with plugs that are wired suitable for it.

Scroll down in the item description and you will see what is in the manual is not the same as the description. Undo the input db9 socket and post a picture of the back of it.

Found AliExpress has scales which they say will match all Chinese DRO’s might get one of them and if suitable will photo the plug wiring. More difficult to take a socket out of the panel than I thought. Will post scale link later

I guess the thing is to buy the whole kit from the same source if you can. I tried a couple of times to buy it from Aliexpress but had problems with the Place Order button not appearing. I take that as a sign :-)

The ref signal is to enable you to pick up previous positions if the lead screws get knocked or twiddled with when the DRO power is off.

4 screws and I think it would split in half, but I already mounted it on the wall, would have to take it down again and maybe even splitting would not expose the backs of the sockets.
The seller has asured me that the scales (link above) is suitable for the panel that I have. When it arrives I will photo the plug wiring.

Don't understand why you are trying to open the display. The sockets will be directly circuit board mounted.

DB9 socket is mounted on the case and leads will go to the board, the back will confirm which terminals are being used.

I don't think we'll ever find out.

Edit: then again we could both be wrong or right! The DB9s may be mounted on a sub board which is then connected to the main board!
