I've had that Sino display for four or five years supplied by M-DRO. Recently a column stopped working but was able to fix it quite easily. (There's a post about it on the forum). We're looking to fit 3 axis dro to our Sieg SX3 benchtop mill. I've been looking on ebay and see kits that would suit at about £250 supplied from the UK, and £200 direct from China. And this SINO one is £168 from China:

SINO SDS6-3V 3 Axis Digital Readout Metal Casing DRO Kit And 3PCS Linear Scale | eBay
The DRO SDS6-3Vis a Multifunctional 3 axis digital readout. These functions bring the easiness for the functions. The available input frequency of DRO is up to 5MHZ with A/B, it is also advanced in the world, and it's the first manufactory who employs 16 and 32 bits calculator in DRO system in...www.ebay.co.uk
I'm drawn to the ones supplied in the UK as it'd be easier to return if it doesn't work. But apart from that, is there any difference in quality between the different kit advertised on ebay in that price range? Or are they all coming from the same factory? I've read all the posts I can find on here relating to DRO and I see one or two people referring positively to Sino, but it's all a bit of a mystery to me.
Any comments or recommendations gratefully received!
Thanks, Chris
I bought most of my recent lathe Dro via AliExpress and have had no problems. I ordered as separates just incase there was a problem and I had to send something back, The packaging did leave something to be desired, but they all arrived without any damage so it was fit for purpose. I had to make the brackets and magnetic scale covers but the cost was less than any three axis I could have purchased elsewhere. Thanks Richard.
The lengths are 150, 300 and 400mm.
I was thinking maybe the Aliexpress one I linked to above and then scales that fit, but tbh I'm inclined to go with the ebay one I linked to earlier in the thread
At least they're going to fit if I get them from that same source (my knowledge of electronics extends to changing a light bulb), and tbh I'm not too impressed by Aliexpress's rating on Trustpilot, and don't really want the hassle if things go wrong. I'm sure MDRO would be even easier but that's £££ in comparison.![]()

You can cut them down to size if you need to.Is the key term (in this case) TTL - if both readout and scale have that, they should fit? Sorry to be slow, your earlier post should really make this clear to me I guess!

The ebay sites seem to have the lengths I want, but not the Aliexpress site.
I have fitted a DRO to my Colchester Triumph. Sadly I have not been that impressed. Essential on a milling machine but less so on a lathe. I find the dials are more than good enough. I only tend to use it for travel along the bed - perhaps I should have bought a trav a dial insteadI bought most of my recent lathe Dro via AliExpress and have had no problems. I understand your qualms, the ToAuto is cheapest, but they don't mention scale physical size, which is something you should check on before ordering.
The Sino one JMS linked to allows you to pick which size scale as well as length.
I use my Lathe DRO all the time, have you got it set to read diameter? Wouldn't be without it.I have fitted a DRO to my Colchester Triumph. Sadly I have not been that impressed. Yes I have but found it easier with the dials. If I am using mm though I use the dro. I suppose it depends on how good the dials are.I use my Lathe DRO all the time, have you got it set to read diameter? Wouldn't be without it.
Robert - in retrospect, did you need the slim scales? I'm looking at ours and there seems to be plenty of space but would appreciate your thoughts.320mm, 150mm and 270mm slim scales.

I didn't really get involved in the difference btw slim and a not-slim; the kit I bought off eBay didn't have option, other than 5 or 1 micron resolution.Robert - in retrospect, did you need the slim scales? The set for my lathe came from this supplier about 2 years ago and were spot onJust for the hell of it, three prices for what seems to be the same thing from the same supplier?
Putting together the set we need results in different final prices, too. My mind is boggling![]()
