drop-deck trailers for hire in the UK?

Second hand mini artic turntables turn up on places like the bay of thieves occasionally, I got one off an artic landrover complete with all the air brake gubbins a while back. A small load compensating valve and hydraulic/air valve cut into the rear brake line activates load compensated air to the suzies which then convert back to air over hydraulics on the trailer.

Hmmmmmm interesting. I'm not sure I'd want to sacrifice that much load bay space as use the pickups bed quite a bit. Was hoping the hitch would be more along the lines of the American style of a ball in a receiver hitch protruding straight up from the bed which could be removed if you wanted to regain a completely flat load floor. But at 18 inches across that ain't too bad admittedly only issue is it will be slap bang in the middle.

Was chatting with the plasterers' boss about the house and has pointed out when the scaffolding is erected it'd be worth considering having openings for telehandler access because of the amount of render needing to be shifted (we're talking north of 600 square metres here). I'm NOT in anyway using that as a justification for looking at cranes...

Yes, plenty of scope there for catastrophe.

There is a bit of a meal being made of this and we are overlooking “ will and want”.

As with most things, projection again. Well if I do this it will do that and maybe, OR it can..... You get the idea. I have moved some very heavy kit, just needs a bit of thought, patience and a smattering of determination.
Going at it a million miles an hour will always end in tears. Having said that, nowadays I find myself reaching for the phone.

The fifth wheel can go on sliders like a car seat and pulled out when not in use, they are used to adjust load positions.

I did that for someone last year. Pain winching the pallet up the ramp, but very dooable

That's interesting to know was looking at trailers and ifors are easy to steal, will have to bear that in mind when I get around to re jiging my canopy and pickup load bed to something more usable.

What are you wanting to tow thats so heavy. Ive towed a 2.5 ton digger on a pick up no problem. I agree trailers are very stealable, which is an issue. But just make yours harder to steal than others should be enough, finding a good safe storage for big trailers is an issue. Mine both live in the field out front.

Have moved some stuff for a few mates recently of the classic tractor vertiaty and also a jd 3r compact tractor with was a tad on the overweight side. Was hoping to do a bit of agri contracting soon and was thinking moving around rented machinery might be easier. With one, plus they are supposed to be inherently a lot more stable than the standard trailers which on the Highlands windy narrow roads sounds like a major benefit, plus a bit easier to reverse into awkward spaces which I do quite a bit of as you have got that little bit extra range of motion.

True wouldn't be anytime soon, would see how the business takes off first really and then decide but was thinking designing the bed layout around the possibility of using one would be a good future proofing

Going back to these drop-deck trailers. I've been thinking quite a bit about how you would build something like that, and I was scratching my head a bit.

Although I'm not planning to build a trailer (I don't think). I was just looking to hire one for £70. But I've been thinking about it all the same. Possibly with a view to building a hand cart/trailer for taking from the roadside off a haulage truck or something. I've been trying to imagine how you'd hydraulically/electrically do the lift thing. I've also been thinking about how you might do a self-levelling cart, sort of like a segway.

Anyway I've finally realised how they do the drop-deck trailers. They have a roller bearing on an angled (~45°) section of the side frame. The ram just pushes it outwards or pulls it inwards and that makes it rise or fall. There's a big spring latch to lock it in 'up'. I'm not sure what there is to help with a controlled descent if the hydraulic ram fails while lowering.

Only other big unknown for me is suspension capacity type stuff. It's hard to test for a 1T weight without having 1T test weights. Leaf springs seem to be the way, but choosing and sizing them? I must admit, I haven't even begin to read about trailer building. I expect I would be too overwhelmed if I did.

A search of YouTube for "JLG trailer" is a big eye opener.
