Interesting. Where is the hydrogen coming from for that plant?
Majority is a by product from the Saltend chemical plant, some will be produced from off shore wind

Far right and open borders ? Interesting bag of beliefs they have. I'm not sure that "far right" supporters are normally very pro immigration tbh.

As opposed to those billionaire climate charlatans with “carbon sequestration/offsetting “ and other “green” scams?Hi Vince, I wasn't suggesting you was. I'm just pointing out that these kind of videos are usually linked to billionaire climate denier with fossil fuel interests.
So not far right then , just a greedy bastard ?Probably because he wants cheap labour.
Battery backup on an industrial scale is sheer madness. Ok for smoothing but nothing else.
But nUcLeAr…Allows rapid energy release to give time for slower means to start.
This is not a one solution fixes all

I know you weren't!Hi Vince, I wasn't suggesting you was. I'm just pointing out that these kind of videos are usually linked to billionaire climate denier with fossil fuel interests. The kind of people that hire private detectives to go through scientist's bins to find something they can smear them with to discredit their work.
It is my only viceNot that long ago you openly stated that you rag your car every day, so you can’t be that worried about it.
Some figures for anyone interested.I'd love to see your figures and sources for that, considering I have around 1MW of batteries on order for various places, I wonder if your figures look anything like mine?
We will never be fully on battery, we will always have another supply. In fact my employers are awaiting commissioning handover of the first commercial hydrogen burning turbine, admittedly it's only 1600MW but some of it will be used to power pumped storage in Scotland (once the govt cut the red tape) for one of the best energy storage solutions we have
You didn't mention Al Gore by name ?As opposed to those billionaire climate charlatans with “carbon sequestration/offsetting “ and other “green” scams?

The Rough gas storage field used to store 41 terrawatt hours. This was enough to keep the UK going for about a week. This is equivalent to 200,000 of the batteries in Hull.
The new Tesla megapak factory producing these big batteries like the one in Hull will have a capacity of 40gw/h a year. That means it would take them 1000 years just to equal what the Rough gas field could store.
It really is mind boggling the difference.
Well if it takes the World's biggest new battery factory 1000 years to make enough batteries to keep Britain going for a week it isn't far off.I meant the 300 year battery production figures.
Batteries are not designed to replace the grid, not sure what grid smoothing is either?
All the batteries I am involved with are behind the meter, so for use where they are installed. Most are charged from excess PV generation as the feed in tariff is pointless. One notable exception is one that is charged from a CHP (it also heats a leisure centre including 3 pools so is on continuously), with the battery and CHP it has been effectively off grid more days than it's been on grid supply this year

Yes but sadly many people actually believe batteries can store all our excess wind energy - the politicians are equally naïve.Grid smoothing is required to rapidly respond to a step function in demand - something like an advert break prompting tens of thousands of people to switch a kettle on.
Dinorwic has historically performed this function allowing a very fast extra chunk of generating power to be brought on line in a matter of seconds. If the demand persists it gives gas powered stations time to ramp up their contribution.
I don’t think any one believes that, no more than people believe batteries would ever able to supply the grid for a week. Everything I’ve read on grid sized storage talks of smoothing being in terms of hours, thus reducing the need for “peaker” type gas stations to kick in when demand is high. This is the sort of thing that batteries are good at, so surely it makes sense to use them?Yes but sadly many people actually believe batteries can store all our excess wind energy - the politicians are equally naïve.
