Yes for a standard house. And 5.5x more for everything electric. That is based on a COP of 3 for the heatpump - in reality more like 2 in Winter.

we have an ev and a plug in hybrid and haven’t used more than 150kw per week, which translates into just over 22kw per day. Can’t comment on heat pump but those are real figures, and obviously include our normal usage for all other electric appliances as well. (Fridge, freezer, washer,dryer,dishwasher,cooking etc)
And yet another week with very little wind and solar - but they think renewables will cope

A heat pump needs to run a lot more than gas central heating remember. And leccy is 4x more expensive than gas.

Local Council wanted/recommended they fit air-source heat pumps to our houses - I declined. I may live to regret the offer but couldn't stand the thought of the attendant upheaval. "All the inside work'll be carried out in one day Sir, with the rest of the installation on the second."

What were the assumptions on the heat pump and car ? From memory the average daily car use is about 18 miles in the uk which I guess is 6kW so does 35 for a heat pump seem about right ? No idea haven’t got one.Just saw a scary figure. At the moment the average house uses 9kw of electricity a day. With an electric car and a heat pump 50kw
How on Earth will they cope with those levels of demand in winter? Like adding an extra 100 million homes to the grid.
I do wonder about the amps - not my specialty (!) but I am led to believe there is only 100 feed to a house. In the future with 2 cars pulling 30 each and an induction job running it seems to me new houses should be getting a bigger feed ??
I guess the 9kw per day is how the 2500£ comes about … we hit about 24 per day and the car is not a big per of that to be fair.

Nice to hear some real world figures. Too many folk go on about it but have no basis. I’ve wondered for ages of our 20-24 per day is reasonable or outrageous … it seems about the same as yours for similar usage. I’ve done quite a few checks while we are away (house is empty) and it seems to be about 5-7 per day just to “function”.

The big beast by us is turning nicely one full rotation every five seconds so is the 13 or so at the Ammanford / Glanaman array , as far as I can see they might have slowed a bit, but haven't as far as I know totally stopped for several months.And yet another week with very little wind and solar - but they think renewables will cope

Not stopped totally perhaps but they aren't generating much. Been really low last week or 2. Today is actually a bit better than it has been - a few days it was down to less than 2%.

When I was doing domestic heat pumps we had a 5 day sla. Day 1 internals, 2 externals and electrics, 3 test and commission, 4 snag (very easy if you wasn't the first on the street) 5 handover. So realistically 2 days of upheaval for the householder

Even the national grid aren’t claiming that renewables alone are going to be the answer to everything and they will need to be a part of a mix of other energy. So as far as I’m aware no one thinks renewables “alone” will cope.

Our bungalow clicks about 80 to 230 watts an hour . when everything non essential is turned off , most of the time though we are running two computers , four anti frost lights at & watts each the dehumidifier & a tv for several hours a day .
As wella s charging the car off peak or solar PV when it available very occasionally the car gets a recharge during the higher rate in the day , Big smile
, we manager to get a fixed rate for a year a few days before prices went ballistic .
So far for us this week the smart device is showing 78.36 kw since 00,01hrs Sunday morning
so 5x24 + 15.5 hrs = 135 hrs this week till 15.30 hrs Friday using 78.36 kwhr = 0.58 kw every hour on average , over 24 hours is roughly14kw a day Need a figure checker ..I'm dyslexic some days and don't know it there & then .

I don't much like your tone mate.
But to explain the "near as", if it did need explaining, is that "near as" 30 looks like 30 - I have no means of measuring do I?
And again - this "equivalent" nonsense is just your opinion, based on percentages, its no more relevant than adding the amount over - and just in case you think that I believe its ok to break speed limits, I don't.
The point I was making, which you obviously missed, is that people "caught" doing 24 mph are now being labelled "speeding motorists".
I could go on to point out that introducing a 20, but having no means to prevent someone doing 60, if anything makes the village less safe, but I'm sure you'll manage to make some assumptions out of that as well.

Please explain the connection between safety camera's and road safety as I've never been able to equate the two. P.S. neither had my nipper who worked in the safety camera dept until it was disbanded .there safety camerasdont forget that
they have them on the main road near us but theres never been an accident in 45 years on it
