I borrowed the mrs leaf today as I couldnt face the cold on my gs with summer glovesIt was -5 here overnight, our Leaf is fine. Takes a couple of minutes to get toasty warm inside and defrost the windows. Comes with a remote app to turn on heating/defrosting so by the time the monosyllabic kids have got their coats and shoes on, the car is ready for the school run.
Quite possible with nighttime tariff with everyone’s timers coming onOnly if all chargers were on exactly at the same time & all going full belt. I suspect that the load soon drops once the initial switch on boost has taken place , juice is going into the batteries on diminishing demand as the batteries become more charged .
At a guess less than one third ( According to Smart Meter data usage ) will be on each day or night and even then if you are like me, the load can be held off till off peak rates become available
Don't they have grid supplied heaters as standard to assist cold starting? Also I wonder the % of homes have charging they to ensure a full battery before setting off.Leafs run in Norway, Canada and other **Language**ing cold country’s fine!
WTFThe MVT for all new EV's news item was in the media several weeks ago , It's already now in place on PHEV hybrids , has been for a year or so IIRC.
Motor Vehicle Tax ... you might know it as the road fund licence from years ago
Car tax? Disc sandwiched between a sock and the window just behind the coat hanger aerial.Motor Vehicle Tax ... you might know it as the road fund licence from years ago
I was talking about when it's parked up away from a charger.........Isn't the battery being kept warm whilst the car is connected to the charger on a floating trickle ? That would explain a half discharged battery unconnected to the mains showing on it's displays that it's too cold to operate.
there safety cameras dont forget that they have them on the main road near us but theres never been an accident in 45 years on itThey always are around Dyfed-Powys (not investigating actual crime, but waving hairdryers, while civilians masquerading as Police skulk in Scamera Vans undertaking licensed highway banditry).
Carmarthenshire is the worst region in Wales for relentless cynical speed traps you'll find in my experience.
this and if it’s plugged in it’s all nice and pre warmed with a charged battery. Bit like using a Webasto but that also uses fuel (range) also a ICE car has less range (I know quicker to refuel than the an EV)Doesn't use much, they haven't got to be boiling
Yeah. I detest the things. Round here they are always deployed at peak traffic times (where the volume of traffic means no chance of catching anyone truly dangerous, but they'll catch a profitable number of "offenders" a few mph over the posted limit - and often when the limit has been lowered below that which has been considered perfectly safe for decades).there safety cameras dont forget that they have them on the main road near us but theres never been an accident in 45 years on it
The local rag has been headlining with "Speeding motorist caught (yes caught) doing 24 in a 20 zone".Yeah. I detest the things. There is very little to no "safety" justification for where & when the Scamera's are deployed in Dyfed-Powys - but a mass of evidence pointing squarely at blatant Highway Banditry.
