Good news @fizzy , just read after consideration they are not implementing these changes , trucks will still be classed as before,at least thats how I read it, due to farmers etc etc complaining it not helping grow the economy ,the opposite in fact.

Brilliant. They obviously caved in under government pressure.
Many of the bad things that happen in this country are done by the civil service not our elected governments.
I think they quickly realised how unpopular this would be.

I wouldn’t be surprised if HMRC go about challenging individual businesses u der their existing “wholly and exclusively” for business purposes. I previously had a client who had it treated as 50:50 so couldn’t claim the full VAT or capital allowances but didn’t get BIK. Probably quite easy to do with a DVLA database of registered keepers and Companies House SIC codes for their business. Hard to justify an office based business needing a double cab pickup

My boss leased a double cab pickup as a company car, I used to take it home every night and weekends, I even went on hols in it, I'm sure that was breaking some rules & regs.

I would be quite happy with a standard pickup except for a few problems.
I never carry rear seat passengers but where do you put your shopping?
Unless you have a truckman rear top they are pretty limited but then if you do have a truckman top you can't stick a ton bag of earth or wood in there.
Vans are far more versatile than pickups but no good for towing as the tow hitch almost scrapes the ground.

Honestly I have heard that a standard pick up with open bed will get all it's belongings stolen in england so fast (heard that from hammond himself on the TV)
but I wonder if a rear bed tool box would work for groceries (they bolt down, and lock with a key), and still allow the dirt and wood further back ?

The Government has performed a spectacular U-turn over its decision to treat double cab pick-ups as cars for taxation purposes by dropping the policy just seven days after announcing it.

Bit of detail:

"Despite the change of heart, however, it will only affect double-cab pick-ups with a payload of more than one tonne. Double-cab pick-ups with payloads below 1000kg, like the Ford Ranger Raptor, will continue to be classed as passenger cars."

So not a total U turn.

I have had a few half ton pick up trucks over the years as yard trucks - caddy - tata thing - and a suburu brat/justy thing.

These suited me - two seats - small load capacity... But they don't make them anymore.

I hate these double cab trucks - they not one thing or another.

And a nightmare to park in Asda when the spaces are designed for a fiesta! But they do tow 3.5 ton quite well

Worked with a customer years ago who had imported a Ford F150 and was driving that as his company car. Was delighted that he was paying (IIRC) £200 a month for it as a "commercial BIK" - he would never have sullied its chrome exterior by sticking bags of gravel in the back.
I expect it's people like him that the legislation was intended to address.

Definitely a fool, I mean an F-150 of all vehicles. He should have got a Dodge or a GMC or even a Chevy.

For 3 years I used a Sprinter as my daily drive. The Ranger feels like a little mini in comparison
