I’d rather bin it than sell it to some engineer cheap that gets it fixed and moves it on for a massive profit.
That would make me feel rather bitter.

I'm like that but if he needs a new one it's better than nothing

I have a few feelers out regarding repairs, will see what happens, maybe nothing of course but there is still some hope.

All is not lost yet and I wouldn't say anything bad about EWM as the help I have had from both Jim and EWM themselves has been excellent and may yet lead somewhere.

I have offered a board at cost (plus an hour of labour for diagnosis, parts fitting, testing and boxing up and palletising for return carriage) and alternatively just to buy the machine back.
Board price I offered was £654+VAT
An hour in the shop is £53+VAT
And carriage on a pallet could probably be got for £80-100 here and back.

It’s still a big chunk of money, but that set was sold for nearly £5,000 new and that was a good ten years ago now so the parts will be correspondingly priced.

I also think there is some hope of a repair, I know a few guys that could more than likely do it too which is information I’d be happy to pass on if I’m asked.
