Steep it in neat TFR overnight and pressure wash it to see what you have.
I wouldn't blast it with anything other than soda as the grit will get everywhere and you might struggle to get it clean again.
Is the valve head stuck in the piston?
Did it bend the push rod?
It might have saved it from doing more damage.
I had the head off one of them a couple of years ago, from my brothers boat, he sold it last year after getting another boat but he might still have the workshop manual.
and if u get it skimmed all the iron shavings no different to sand getting everywhere. just blow em out. the recon place will anyhowVery repairable, and my guess unlikely to be cracked, unless the valve has hit the chamber face edge on. And you only need one seat, unless your flush, then maybe do all the exhausts.
No worries about dust, just blast it, there is only one oilway.
They don’t have seats fitted, they are just machined into the cast head. You normally just fit hardened seats into the exhausts to run non-lead petrol. Have you priced rebuilding a B20, not cheap. Was thinking that as i have a sand blaster. I asked the engine chaps today if they will fit new valve seat, they can if its flat, what ever they mean as there kit is an old type. If not i know another local place who can. but they cant crack test it as there machine is broke lol.
Ill clean it up and soo whats what. i know of a few full engines going to waiting for prices.
here it says they have fitted valve seatsThey don’t have seats fitted, they are just machined into the cast head. You normally just fit hardened seats into the exhausts to run non-lead petrol. Have you priced rebuilding a B20, not cheap.
Can’t open it. B20 heads don’t have have fitted valve seats and yours don’t look like they have them. Unless the marine version is different.
A few folk have said the marine are different, you can even buy the valve seats. Can’t open it. B20 heads don’t have have fitted valve seats and yours don’t look like they have them. Unless the marine version is different.
Wrong - look again....They don’t have seats fitted, they are just machined into the cast head. You normally just fit hardened seats into the exhausts to run non-lead petrol. Have you priced rebuilding a B20, not cheap.
And i could of but dont come to Yarm anymoreif u had been local i could have given it a dust over in the blasting cabinet with kiln dried sand it would come up well
It’s common to fit them. Maybe the marine version is different the , never fitted to the car heads.A few folk have said the marine are different, you can even buy the valve seats.

I’m the same, have three B20 Volvos. Strong engine that can run at 5000rpm all day long.Frankly, I rate Volvo, but not Volvo penta, God knows I've seen a few.
And I've been driving various Volvo's for a long, long time, but IF, I had a boat I'd never stick a penta in, maybe the new ones are better? The three cylinders are good as anchors, that's it, the B series red block was an amazing engine, but I know NOTHING about the Marinised versions of these.
No it hasn’t, are you looking at the intake ports?Wrong - look again....
