Fairline Fury MK2 refurb

Well that was quick to set up,

Now just my first impressions. This is made a lot better than the Clarke ones and for the extra £80 well worth it IMO.

I wasnt to sure if to go for this one but when i found it can do vertical cuts aswell that was the decider, even though i need to make a table but thats simple enough.

I cut straight from the box within 1mm of square so ill fettle that tomorrow. its quiet and easy cuts, the hydraulic adjuster for the drop works perfect.

Mite make a suds tray some time as will be doing a lot of SS. easy enough i reckon as the body is bolted with four bolts to the stand.

You have the newer version with a storage cupboard built in - mine just has a hole at the base of the stand. I always thought it was a waste of good cupboard space!

I see you store your cutting oil can in the same place I do - no matter how hard I try to keep that but clean, it’s always minging in no time!

I can say i am happy with it. for angle though its a faff as the angle gauge is not accurate enough. a few deg out so it trial and error with a gauge.
Cutting though its spot on, can cut off a mm, tried it out on Mild Steel and Aluminum and impressed.

One bit i hate is trying to keep the whole thing clean, as we know swarf gets in everywhere. the base will make a good coolant set up, plenty of room and not much use but for blade storage..

I can't believe I missed this thread. One of my first RC model boats was a Fairline Fury!
Awesome boats. Hulls far better than your typical Yank jobbie!

And speaking of that, RC that is, I want to build a 1/8 scale model from scratch of it. GRP hull and wood superstructure.
I could be doing that on weekends like this when i cant work of the boat.

Everybody i have spoke to about the se Fury`s say they are well built but for one person who id rebuilding one on a YT video. I think they must be well built to take the power they do and speeds they get to. And still about near 50 years on.

Yes have that in my list of info. One of the first thing i found actually a while ago. I have wanted one for many many years, back then there wasnt much internet though to find info. Now loads.

The old grp hulls were much stronger and suffered less from osmosis.

my last boat was an early 70`s Norman 32 cruiser it had hardly been out the water for along time and very little Osmosis, and the hull varied in thickness from 35mm to 12mm from keel to chine. Be interested to find out the thickness of the Fury, I have a few through hull fittings to replace so will find soon enough.

Sorry to say kida but nope, not on the boat as just near the end off the workshop build so i can get the engines in to start to rebuild them. Getting there as we do but not as quick as i wished, the workshop has taken a lot of my time and finances, but needs doing.

Thde workshop is as near as dam usable now. I am just making a cabinet for the lathe i got, and have a small stainless job on so get them out the way and i will be cracking on with the window refurbs first, I am waiting for the chap to get in touch who is making the canopy but still nothing from him. glad i putty them funds away for it otherwise at a couple £K that wold be on hold aswell lol.

Then its a catch 22,siutation as i need to get the workshop to pay for itself so i can rebuild the engines now so they will be slow going but lots i can do in the meantime like sort the wiring out on the boat and what not.

On a better note, i got my steroid injections done yesterday in one shoulder. in bloody agony now and expect so for a week maybe. but hope it works

Hi kida it was all gojng well..................untill.

I started to crack on with the windows refurbs but a day or so after i had an eye hemorrhagic and lost most sight in my good eye so all gone slow again.

Its a bit dodgy on the polisher lol

Tell the truth i have been loosing interest in it. i think just because of the health issues being one thing after another. Saying that though i have drawing for things i want to make to sell to get the funds back to do the boat. Boat support and outdrive supports/stands.

A while back, as said before that have spent all boat funds on the work shop, i have decided to get the boat usable, as in comfy enough, to launch this year 2022, no engines and all ding sing but useable as in winter it will be coming home for more work to be done. this way we can have time away on it on the mooring we have and even do work on it while away.

So not al doom and gloom, see i dont want rid, just loose motivation.


made a tooling to make new window frame brackets first.needs a tweek to make perfic.

A quick blast with 120g in the DA and then polisher.

guys its making me dolally, well more than normal lol. surgery in a couple weeks anyway so hope that helps for the near future. I defy what they said that in 10 years i will be near blind by time i am 50, well two or is it three years to go to prove them wrong.
