Ow do all. Faffer is back on it. motivated myself to crack on. Drooped to 3 day week as struggling at work so at home i can do a si please and chill time swhen i want soooo

I checked over the drives, should of done this ages ago as thye would of been the decider on how the running goes.

And my thanks for the seller not bull hitting me on this one they are good upto now.

Knocked up a drive stand to make life easier

One drive had real black oil in it. prop shaft was clean and from any signs of stuff wrapped up.

the black oil in the tub is from the other drive, shows a big difference towards this one.

All feels good, UJ is good, no prop play. prop hub is fine and as said al changes gears well : Thats a good few £k saved i hope ha ha

gear change is good, one is a little slower than the other, the one that had black oil is quicker but then these drives are best tested with an engine stuck on and running. i havnt turned them a whole lot as i belive that can damage the clutch.


As there is little more i can do to them but for cleaning and refiling with oil i cracked on with the windows, no pun intended there lol.

Hate doing windows

I am thinking on using a different method to reseal these. i have cleaned them back, well two of the 12 if you include the flybridge windows. I usually use the rubber U channel and felt runner seals but this time i am thinking on just using either a High Modulus sealant adhesive or a Low Modulus one. OR Butyl that i use to fit the frames into the boat. Gun grade here though not strip.

I love the Puraflex 40 as its as good as the Sikaflex 291i and half the price and has been great over the years. I know it will be a pain in the **** to remove the glass from the frame in the future , but that should only have to happen if the window gets broken, in over 30 years i have never had a broken window on a boat. So maybe no reason not to use HM sealant. i say this as i have a load of Puraflex 40 here.

I have the Butyl aswell but i dont like the idea of that alone a st doesnt set very much. Then though its great for sealing in the frames to the boat.

Ok done an hour or so and stressing so chill time. Going t be a looooong weekend ha ha.

Oh and i have done something else different. I have always drilled and tapped these frame brackets. this time i am trying the drill/tap screws. these are not Tek or Easy Drive just cheap ones of ebay.
lot less faffing about.

Made a grind bar to get them to length. just the drill tip sticks a bit much, mite be ok but dont want to risk it against the glass edge.

the heads are few mm wider than the original screws so these will be countersunk abit more later.

so this one is near done but for messing up a bit with the last three brackets. thats where i stopped an dleft it. learnt how to walk away when getting stressed and not throw a spanner, or a window ha ha

And thanks, the eyes are infact worse now. cant see sod all much in the bad one, the other now good is not so good ha ha. fingers crossed the other eye doesnt go aswell hey.
And thanks for reading then, makes it worth while for me and gives me a bit of encouragement to carry on.

I have let my mooring go down Wales and goig to stick it on the canal agaim where i was last. it has access to Glasson Dock and the sea, this way its a 65 mile trip to Isle of Man or a 100 mile to Llandudno. good trips ahead if i get it done.

what is doing my head in the last week or so is engines. Now i can either rebuild these i have at a cost of maybe £3k or fit diesel engines, rather that but heck a 130hp diesel is around £4k plus. I have found a few Ford Mermaid/Sabre engines but still around £3k each.

Just me but i can bet i will just rebuild these unless i can find a pair running and ready to go inj. found a few for sale but sellers are not replying to my messages. Its a shame as these folk are unsure of the value to seel them, they ask on forums and dam FB and then folk say there worht twice as much in parts, which they are so i bet thats what they are doing,

For now untill i can see a dam micrometer to check the engine parts tolerances ill faff about with the other stuff, lots to do

You would not believe how happy i am just to get these three windows in

T is a diamond as i always say. If it wasnt for her this would not be done. She had the inside to work on fitting the washer and nuts while e i tightend up outside. a few ares i over tightened which peeed me off a bit.

I still need to trim back the Butyl but atleast there sealed and pen nicely once again.

I just wish i didnt try new things, i used this `easy` removal tape when i removed the windows so i could cover them with poly sheeting., hell it is not `easy` to remove. tooks hours to remove with heat gun and acetone.

I was lucky enough to find the Pink Stuff i got ages ago so to make it easy to clean up the cabin to the windows edge once the windows are fitted.

So cleaned up well all frames with Acetone and fitted the Butyl tape. cracking stuff in both tape and cartridge form.

I need to give them a quick polish/clean ip again once i have trimmed back the butyl from the edge.

The canopy should be made and fitted in a month or so which i will glad of as it been near 8 moths in the wait and i think i have found the leak in the cabin. So once that is fitted it will tell me if i am right or not. Hope to god i am.

this has got me motivated a bit more now

thanks and will be changing the name, although folk think it suits me. Faffers Fury maybe. Or maybe One Vision being a Queen fan and i had the vison of owning one of these for around 30 years.when i first got into boats.

Plan was to rebuild the two engines then not, but to gte one runner then rebuild or gte on ei have going etc etc etc etc

So.....

I spotted this on ebay a week or so ago at £2300 but to much for me and i wanted to rebuild these two i have so i didnt bother to make an offer and forgot about it. Then a mate linked me to it for sale on a Face Ache page and a good bit less so i made an offer and two days after its here.

Running it is but needs a front seal replacing which is somewhere in the load of parts that came with it.

Arrived home today and found this outside the workshop

As said loads of spares, bellhousing, couple of starter motors and alternators, crank shaft and camshaft, gaskets, leads, pistons etc etc etc

Thus weekends job will be to check it over fully and get it running, check the compression and what not and go from there.
Now all the parts i have with this and the other two engines i have i should get one more good one.

Dont know what i was thinking ha ha. if i could afford the diesel engines to give the same 260hp then yes but not in this lifetime.

oh dam just remembered not got the oil filter spec to get a new one, things you think of at random times.Hope local car spares has one when i get the oil.

All sorted got one to collect in a bit. There are a good 30 cross-reference on these.

well got it all set up, starter, set the plugs and ponts, new HT leads and full battery and fuel. Got a good spark at the plugs and fuel getting through to the cylinders. I did struggle at first to get a spark as i forgot to give power to the coil ha ha, what a pillock.

And when i did get the spark and fuel in not even a fart

I gave up after a bit and expected the worst so did a cold ( obviously lol ) compression test which came back good.

Set it on a test bench ready for this weeknd to try again.

comp reading are 145psi/155psi/145psi/145pi so good there.

So i replaced the head with one off one of the other carbs i have, that worked but leaked with an old gasket. Therefore i have sent off for a couple mew crab gasket kits for this weekend. I want to get the carbs ultrasonic cleaned aswell. I am looking into this now and if to buy my own cheap type. we will see.

all i can do is recheck the gaps for the points and plugs, cnat think why else at the minute why it wont even fire. unless anybody can give me an idea

IF you've got spark and compression and it won't fire when you squirt fuel in the intake then the timing is wrong.

got a strobe here to try it. Thing is it was running, looks as if nothing has been changed or moved aswell. will be my next step though.

cracked on this weekend a bit.

As engine is running i have got on rebuilding the other carburettors. And as i cant make an ultrasonic cleaner i bought one. Just the biggest i cold afford so it can fit the carb`s in it and other stuff aswell.

It does a good job but not as good as i expected. I tried the carburettor solution that came with it and also a white vinegar solution which i wont be dong again, the whole house stunk of vinegar for a day or so. Last solution i just used hot water and a good squirt of washing liquid.

I was going to be lazy and fit it all back together now, why i ask myself after all this and for the engine still to look tatty. So i have removed all other bit, well the oil cooler and few bit and they will be cleaned up along with all coolant pipe work.

What has got me wondering who has been messing with these carb`s is that one had a bolt stuck in a hole, that should of been for adjustment and this aluminum gasket for the diaphragm.

Back in the day i had cars with twin SU carb`s on and for the life of me i couldnt tune them up to well. hope these are easier. I believe they are difficult but i have put them back together as they came apart and all screws have been screwed back in the same threads in.

So off shopping now for VP red paint and black
