You do need that angle grinder. You will just get more disheartened if you continue with the way you are going. give it a rest until you get the gear. Aldi had one at £20 which would do for the prep work you have to do.

I actually baught the aldi one and the flamming shaft was bent took it back and they didnt have any left yeah i realised that and thats ehat im doing plus im.just wasteing the rubbish rods i have lol dont suppos anyone knows what polarity to run toolpak 6013s on just says ac dc on the box and 123 yeah i will do mate thanks

You have to wait December I guess , that is the period when Lidl sell 1200W 125mm angle grinder .
Or you can go straight to eBay or Amazon and buy a decent grinder

Thats gotta be the problem im running dcen must be why it looks so cold and when i crank up the amps its jist gets to hot and my plate wharps

Yeah iv got a makita on order just waiting for delivery now. Wow i cant actually believe how helpfull everyone on here is not gonna lie if it wasnt for this forum that welder would have met the business end of my 15lb sledge follwed but by the hatcht lol thanks guys your all freaking amazing

Ok so last night i was sitting around bored out my mind so i decided to have another go so after closer inspection of the welder im not running dcen its running dcep the caps on the nuts where the wrong way round so i cranck the amps up to what the gauge says is 120 amps for 3.2 but im finding it alot easyier to keep my arc going not stickig as much and the rod is not burning as fast as it would if it was over ampd so im starting to think this welder is just abit past it now gonna invest in a new one i think

I was looking what weldequip does offer
I found a parweld xts I think was very cheap and cellulose rod capable
Another option is a stamos S-MMA 250 IGBT that it's what I have and use very happy with it .
I wrote a review in the section welders and welding machines

An Esab buddy there are a lot of options out there

Yeah i been looking around for one that can do mig as well and iv spotted a blackline mig/mma 200 amp inverter its 233 so probs gonna go for that i think

If you get good to stick weld your will probably have no problems to learn MIG and TIG
It's 6 maybe 7 years that I stick weld and I'm still learning , but I'm at the point that is way easier to learn because my muscle memory is trained so my rod motions are way more precise
I always had difficulty to weld fillets joints ,but I think that I'm getting better
I'm understanding how to give the correct angulations to the rod ,I even did some overhead fillets and they came out pretty good
Don't get sad if something goes wrong ,is something that happens .
All you have to do is understand how your arc works just watching the puddle
It's way more difficult do that with 6013 than 7018
Or better , that is what I got to say according with my experience , because with 7018 despite the starting it's a kind of rod very easy to control also out of position and I didn't have any problem whatsoever with 7018 out of throw away some rod because was damaged or to dump to be used
With 6013 I got porosity problems,pin holes ,slag inclusions ,blow arc and an hudge amount of problems on fillets welds like one side only weld ,zig zag literally welds ,an hudge amount of blasphemies towards every holiness ....
I was getting sad and downhearted because all my efforts to learn were not making any acceptable results ,I was even almost to quit this hobby , but something happened
A friend of mine was a fabricator ,next to his workshop lives a retired fabricator ,this guy sold me an engine driven welder with this welder I did try to weld using 6013 and I made a 12cm bead on fillet ,a flat surface , imperceptible ripple pattern on it ,slag peeled off one single piece .
After that I decided to buy this engine driven.
After something like 3 or 4 months my friend is dead ,and I bought an inverter welder ,the ground clamp I use on this welder was on a cabinet in the shop of my friend
After my friend's death, I don't know why but I had an hudge improvement in my welding skills , something like he is here with me and he helps me (it happened immediately a week later his death, first time I welded after this fact) .
So don't worry keep trying ,keep learning , don't be afraid to do something different
Sometimes isn't you but the welder the cause of your problems
I switched from buzz box to engine driven and inverter welder
Try different rods ,brand ,and typology , different settings
Check your leads and connection from the plug to the electrode holder and the ground clamp

Oh wow ro sounds like you and that welder are meant to be my friend you have a guiding angel yeah i notice the puddle is very unpredictable i find im chasing the puddle not my weld line irispective of the angel or speed or length of the arc so im really thinking the welder has had it i was working on shiny metal no rust even cleaned earth clamp and where it was clamped on i had it on 120 amps o think and it was welding better but still doesnt seem right iv been through the lines all good there i knoe my rods are abit crap but still useable so has to be the welder im currently in the process of moving house well not moving till jan but gettong every thing i can packed so i probarly wont get one till next year

But you have to watch the edges of the puddle the point of the rod and keep pushing the rod in the middle of the joint
