I got a price for hinges to the DXF @Aff kindly did that are nom. 350mm long.

£22ea, water jet in 6mm Gr304 stainless which I don't think is too bad.

However 350mm is aesthetically too short. I reckon they need to be about 500mm long. Wondering if I could go down to 3mm.

Just been and stuck some white tape on at 500mm long.

I'll probably have them cut blank as the coach bolt centres aren't exactly regular though they are on a straight line.

I might mock up the hinges in tin foil to get a better feel before I commit to having them cut.

There'll also likely be a vertical stainless strip of some sort dead centre and a mock lock/clasp/GoT shield etc in the middle eventually.

Looking at your marks I would say you need 500mm as a minimum to look right for the size of gates.

Although I think you'll need to be careful that as you scale the details either side don't get too close to the top, might start looking a bit weird.

Took the sides off the second pillar cap. Needs a little repair/fettling:

I'd like to get them on and painted to avoid damage etc but this mix is relatively fresh and green.

Wondering if a breathable, black paint would do it? The gates are done in Bedec Barn Paint which can be used on cement/concrete and is micro porous...maybe I should contact them. If I don't paint them then they'll get covered in pigeon and squirrel ****. The pillars sit right under trees.

I was going to have a go later on AutoCAD but yours looks better!

Mulling putting two hinges back to back then shortening the hinges?

I'm also thinking mock "pull rings" based on the hinge shape maybe?

Thinking of perhaps a pair of something like this:

In stainless steel. With the tips though to match the hinges. SWMBO and I are in disagreement however.....nothing new there!

I reckon a simple flat plate would look alright. Madam reckons it has to have a sticky out bit and real ring/knocker thing!

@Fraserb, could you work your magic with something like this but in a flat plate that would "bring it to life" like with the tractor pics? Thinking it'd be bloody hard to get the eyes/nose detail?

I'm even thinking of printing the hinges and these in 3D and spraying them silver...
